Come ha lavorato con i giocatori rimasti a Milanello?

L’ideale era lavorare con tutto il gruppo ma non è stato possibile. I giocatori rimasti hanno fatto un lavoro diverso rispetto alle altre settimane.

Prima sfida contro Conte. Che partita si immagina? Perché serve vincere a Napoli?

Ho sfidato Antonio da calciatore, ci siamo affrontati tante volte. Vero, da allenatore è la prima volta. Partita difficile e importante per gli obiettivi che abbiamo, non dobbiamo nascondere i nostri obiettivi. E per quello è importante il risultato di domani. Abbiamo lavorato per vincere, conoscendo le qualità dell’avversario.

È tornato Ibrahimovic. L’hai sentito vicino?

Lui non può giocare domani, è fuori (ride, ndr). Con la dirigenza ci sentiamo tutti i giorni. Abbiamo lavorato in un ambiente sano, buono e con tanta fame. Devo parlare di quel che riguarda i giocatori e nient’altro.

Su Abraham: è probabile che sia lui a partire dal primo minuto?

Abbiamo lavorato con tutti. Sui principi della squadra, sui momenti del gioco. Abbiamo stimolato anche il talento, la qualità dei giocatori.

Che gara ti aspetti?

Un Napoli di qualità, a immagine e somiglianza del suo allenatore. Con intensità, lucidità e con una punta che sa fare tanto bene la sponda e Raspadori che si mette dentro, McTominay pure. Lobotka che è il maestro del centrocampo. Sappiamo tutto a memoria, ci siamo preparati su questi principi e le loro qualità ma guardando alle nostre qualità. Siamo pronti per una buona gara, mi piace sfidare i migliori e il Napoli è una delle migliori squadre d’Italia.

Quanto ti stimola la sfida con Conte?

Non ho bisogno di rassicurazioni, sono qua per fare il miglior lavoro possibile. Con Antonio abbiamo la stessa passione del mestiere. Penso che al di là della passione che abbiamo del calcio, viviamo la vita in modo intenso. Ognuno ha le sue caratteristiche, io sono diverso da lui.

Ti senti il Conte portoghese?

No.

Lei crede nella rimonta?

Se no non sarei qua. L’ambiente è buono, sano.

Ti ha dato fiducia Ibrahimovic? Avete parlato di futuro?

Non ho bisogno della fiducia. Lasciatemi dire una cosa: io devo lavorare, non ho questa debolezza di avere qualcuno che mi dia rassicurazioni. Non ne ho bisogno, dipendo dai risultati. Non sono un bambino che ha bisogno che il papà gli dica che mi vuole bene. So che ho due obiettivi: Coppa Italia e il quarto posto. Più la Supercoppa che abbiamo vinto. Certo, c’è la delusione in Champions League.

Avete preparato la partita anche in funzione dell’Inter?

Io penso nella mia esperienza che se prepariamo due partite non va bene. Quindi ci siamo concentrati sul Napoli, poi penseremo alla Coppa Italia. Ci sono giocatori che in Nazionale hanno giocato due partite ma abbiamo uno staff che lavora molto bene.

Su Walker

Fa parte del gruppo, si è inserito molto bene. Ha tanta esperienza, dentro e fuori dal campo. Fino a ora ha fatto tutto quello che gli è stato chiesto, è un professionista fantastico e spero continui così fino alla fine.

Su Loftus-Cheek

Può ricoprire più di una posizione. Giocatore importante, con numeri importanti come si è visto l’anno scorso. Ruben può fare il trequartista, giocare box-to-box, dipende dalla strategia della partita e dalle sue condizioni. Ora è a disposizione.

Chi toglierebbe al Napoli?

Tutti i giocatori del Napoli hanno qualità e Conte sta facendo bene, con giocatori bravi facendo una stagione di buon livello. Non mi piace soffermarmi sui singoli, in ogni reparto ci sono giocatori bravi.

Tomori sta giocando poco. Thiaw e Gabbia le danno più garanzie?

Dipende dai cicli, dalla forma. Ho 4 difensori centrali verso i quali ho grande fiducia.

How did you work with the players who stayed at Milanello?

The ideal would have been to work with the whole group, but it wasn’t possible. The players who stayed did different work compared to other weeks.

First match against Conte. What kind of game do you expect? Why is it important to win in Naples?

I faced Antonio as a player, we met many times. True, as a coach, it’s the first time. It’s a tough and important match for our goals, we can’t hide our ambitions. That’s why tomorrow’s result is important. We worked to win, knowing the opponent’s qualities.

Ibrahimovic is back. Did you feel his support?

He can’t play tomorrow, he’s out (laughs, ed.). We talk to the management every day. We’ve been working in a healthy, good environment with a lot of hunger. I have to focus on the players and nothing else.

About Abraham: Is he likely to start?

We worked with everyone. On the team’s principles, on moments of the game. We also stimulated the talent and quality of the players.

What kind of game do you expect?

A quality Napoli, reflecting their coach. With intensity, clarity, and a striker who’s good at holding up play, plus Raspadori who comes inside, McTominay too. Lobotka is the midfield maestro. How motivating is the challenge against Conte?

I don’t need reassurances, I’m here to do the best job possible. Antonio and I share the same passion for the job. Beyond our love for football, we live life intensely. Everyone has their own traits, I’m different from him.

Do you see yourself as the Portuguese Conte?

No.

Do you believe in a comeback?

If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be here. The environment is good and healthy.

Did Ibrahimovic give you confidence? Did you discuss the future?

I don’t need confidence from anyone. Let me say something: I need to work, I’m not weak enough to need someone to reassure me. I depend on results. I’m not a kid who needs his dad to tell him he loves him. I know I have two goals: the Italian Cup and fourth place. Plus the Super Cup we already won. Of course, there’s disappointment in the Champions League.

Did you prepare the match with Inter in mind too?

From my experience, preparing for two matches at once doesn’t work. So we focused on Napoli, and then we’ll think about the Italian Cup. Some players had two games with the national team, but we have a staff that works really well.

About Walker

He’s part of the group, integrated very well. He has a lot of experience, on and off the pitch. So far, he’s done everything asked of him. He’s a fantastic professional, and I hope he keeps it up until the end.

About Loftus-Cheek

He can play in more than one position. An important player, with impressive numbers as we saw last year. Ruben can be a playmaker, box-to-box, depending on the game plan and his condition. He’s available now.

Who would you take away from Napoli?

All Napoli players have quality, and Conte is doing well, with good players having a solid season. I don’t like to focus on individuals, every department has quality players.

Tomori is playing less. Do Thiaw and Gabbia give you more guarantees?

It depends on the cycles, on the form. I have four central defenders I trust a lot.
