SCARONI AL Q&A: "FURIOSO PER IL RINVIO DI BOLOGNA. SULLO STADIO AVANTI A SAN DONATO"

Oggi pomeriggio si è svolto un lungo Q&A con il Presidente Paolo Scaroni e con il CFO Stefano Cocirio. Di seguito tutte le domande e le risposte:

Pensate di poter chiudere anche questo bilancio in positivo, a meno di eventuali cessioni?

"Il nostro obiettivo è di realizzare un bilancio solido. Stiamo monitorando con grande attenzione i costi, perché tenerli sotto controllo è essenziale per poter continuare a investire. Che sia un piccolo utile o una piccola perdita non cambia molto per noi."

Ci sono maxi bonus per i dirigenti nel caso venga costruito lo stadio?

"Nessun maxi bonus, assolutamente no. Non esiste alcun bonus di questo tipo, né legato allo stadio né ad altro. È una falsità totale. Non riguarda né me né Giorgio Furlani. Detto ciò, sono determinato per la costruzione dello stadio. Non ho bisogno di incentivi in più per dedicarmi a un progetto che reputo essenziale per il Milan e per il calcio italiano. La motivazione è già altissima, non mi serve alcun bonus."

Gestione di costi e investimenti. Risponde Cocirio.

"Il costo per i tesserati è salito dell'8%. Non c’è un traguardo prefissato: investiamo le risorse che generiamo organicamente. Anche nel 2024/25 l'investimento crescerà, a cui si aggiungerà il costo per il progetto Milan Futuro. Man mano che la società si sviluppa, cresce anche l’investimento sul mercato."

Qual è la strategia sui rinnovi? Risponde Cocirio.

"L’anno scorso abbiamo rinnovato 10 contratti dei giocatori della Prima Squadra, credo che sia la dimostrazione più chiara dell'impegno della società nel trattenere i giocatori di talento."

Un commento aggiuntivo sugli investimenti. Risponde Scaroni.

"Come ho detto, negli ultimi due anni abbiamo speso 100 milioni, al netto delle cessioni. Quindi un esborso reale. Se confrontiamo con altri club, siamo tra i primi: questo è possibile perché abbiamo un bilancio sano. Utile e investimenti vanno di pari passo, sono strettamente connessi. Per investire serve avere conti in ordine, perché con bilanci negativi non potremmo fare certe scelte."

Sul rinvio della partita a Bologna. Risponde Scaroni.

"Iniziamo col dire che sono molto arrabbiato per la decisione del sindaco di Bologna, che considero incomprensibile, ingiusta e priva di motivazioni valide. Non tanto per la chiusura dello stadio a causa dell’alluvione, per carità. Ma per il divieto di giocare la partita a porte chiuse. Questa scelta è davvero inspiegabile, soprattutto considerando che sono stati autorizzati altri eventi a porte chiuse a Bologna. È una decisione iniqua. Noi, di fronte a un’istituzione che prende una decisione, siamo sempre rispettosi, ma in questo caso ci è stato arrecato un grave danno. Crediamo ci siano tutte le basi per contestare l'ordinanza del sindaco. La stiamo valutando da ogni angolazione e non intendiamo restare inerti di fronte a questo danno subito. Siamo tutti infuriati noi del Milan, abbiamo subito un torto grave. La Lega e il presidente Casini hanno contattato più volte il sindaco per farci giocare a porte chiuse, ma abbiamo ricevuto un diniego incomprensibile."

Quali sono le aspettative minime per i risultati in Champions? Risponde Cocirio.

"Facendo una premessa, le proiezioni di budget non riflettono le ambizioni sportive del club. Nel budget di quest'anno abbiamo previsto di raggiungere i playoff, ma ci aspettiamo tutti di fare molto meglio."

C’è un cambiamento nelle strategie sulle plusvalenze? Oppure il caso Tonali è isolato? Risponde Cocirio.

"Non abbiamo bisogno di vendere giocatori; queste sono situazioni che valutiamo opportunisticamente, caso per caso, in base alle offerte ricevute. Possiamo permetterci di scegliere grazie alla solidità dei nostri bilanci."

Qual è la situazione con AIMC? Risponde Cocirio.

"Non c’è stata alcuna riduzione dei biglietti riservati ad AIMC; sono rimasti gli stessi concordati tra noi e loro. Ci siamo incontrati la settimana scorsa e stiamo discutendo le questioni sollevate da AIMC, cercando un accordo che soddisfi entrambe le parti."

Qual è lo stato delle trattative per un accordo con il Congo? Risponde Scaroni.

"In mezzo a queste negoziazioni, manteniamo un certo riserbo. La trattativa è ancora in corso e non è stata finalizzata. È un'iniziativa che comprende sia aspetti commerciali che importanti progetti sociali, in particolare attraverso la Fondazione Milan."

Con questi continui aumenti di fatturato, quanto è vicina la soglia dei 500 milioni di euro? Risponde Scaroni.

"Mi piacerebbe, ma non ricordo di aver mai parlato di questa cifra. Se lo chiedete a me, non l'ho mai affermato. In queste cifre contano sia il nostro impegno e lavoro, sia la performance in Champions League, che è fondamentale per migliorare in modo significativo il fatturato. I risultati sportivi ed economici sono strettamente legati."

Quali saranno le prossime mosse riguardo al rinvio? Come intendete tutelare il nome del Milan? Risponde Scaroni.

"Tutte le decisioni delle autorità pubbliche, come quelle del sindaco, possono essere soggette a contestazioni sulla loro legittimità, soprattutto quando sono incomprensibili e non si capisce perché non potessimo giocare a porte chiuse. È una decisione ingiusta. Non si capisce perché il calcio debba essere escluso, mentre altri eventi possono svolgersi. Questo apre la strada a una possibile contestazione legale. È difficile quantificare il danno subito, ma non giocare fino a febbraio ci crea un problema considerevole. Stiamo valutando seriamente questo aspetto. Sono molto arrabbiato e, quando lo sono, agisco, non resto in silenzio. Mi dedicherò a questa situazione."

Si dice che l'Agenzia delle Entrate stimi il valore di San Siro attorno ai 200 milioni di euro... Risponde Scaroni.

"Non mi metto a fare calcoli economici basati su supposizioni. Non si tratta di un assegno da 200 milioni da pagare; è una questione complessa. C’è un tunnel da costruire... La questione è intricata. Fino a quando noi e l’Inter non avremo un quadro chiaro, sarà difficile andare avanti. Il progetto di San Donato rimane centrale nella nostra strategia, è una questione molto importante. Solo 3 o 4 mesi fa, sembrava che San Siro fosse impossibile a causa delle problematiche legate al secondo anello. Adesso abbiamo superato quell’ostacolo e possiamo guardare avanti. Ma non significa che tutti i problemi siano risolti. Una volta completata questa analisi, dovremo fare i conti. Il percorso è ancora lungo. Ho ancora cicatrici da 5 anni di tentativi su San Siro, quindi mantengo un certo livello di preoccupazione. San Donato resta l’opzione principale per il nostro nuovo stadio."

Prevedete di chiudere quest’anno con un bilancio in equilibrio, a prescindere dalle plusvalenze? Risponde Cocirio.

"Ci aspettiamo di chiudere con un piccolo utile o una lieve perdita, a meno di cessioni significative come quella di Tonali dell'anno scorso."

This afternoon, a lengthy Q&A session took place with President Paolo Scaroni and CFO Stefano Cocirio. Below are all the questions and answers:

Do you think you can close this budget positively, barring any potential player sales?

“Our goal is to achieve a solid budget. We are closely monitoring costs because keeping them under control is essential for continuing to invest. Whether it’s a small profit or a small loss doesn’t change much for us.”

Are there any large bonuses for executives if the stadium is built?

“No large bonuses, absolutely not. There is no such bonus, whether related to the stadium or anything else. It’s a complete falsehood. It concerns neither me nor Giorgio Furlani. That said, I am determined to proceed with the stadium construction. I don’t need extra incentives to dedicate myself to a project I consider essential for Milan and for Italian football. My motivation is already very high; I don’t need any bonuses.”

How are you managing costs and investments? Cocirio responds.

“The cost for players has risen by 8%. There is no fixed target: we invest the resources we generate organically. Even in 2024/25, the investment will grow, which will include costs for the Milan Futuro project. As the club develops, so does our investment in the market.”

What is the strategy regarding contract renewals? Cocirio responds.

“Last year we renewed 10 contracts for First Team players, which I believe is the clearest demonstration of the club's commitment to retaining talented players.”

Any additional comments on investments? Scaroni responds.

“As I mentioned, in the last two years, we have spent 100 million, net of player sales. So it’s a real expenditure. If we compare with other clubs, we are among the top spenders: this is possible because we have a healthy budget. Profit and investments go hand in hand; they are closely connected. To invest, you need to have your accounts in order because, with negative budgets, we wouldn’t be able to make certain choices.”

Regarding the postponement of the match in Bologna. Scaroni responds.

“Let’s start by saying that I am very angry about the decision made by the mayor of Bologna, which I consider incomprehensible, unjust, and lacking valid motivations. Not so much because of the stadium closure due to flooding, to be clear. But because of the ban on playing the match behind closed doors. This choice is truly inexplicable, especially considering that other events have been authorized to take place behind closed doors in Bologna. It’s an inequitable decision. In front of an institution making a decision, we are always respectful, but in this case, we have suffered a serious injury. We believe there are all the grounds to contest the mayor’s ordinance. We are evaluating it from every angle and do not intend to remain inert in the face of this damage. We are all furious at Milan; we have been wronged. The League and President Casini have repeatedly contacted the mayor to allow us to play behind closed doors, but we received an incomprehensible denial.”

What are the minimum expectations for the Champions League results? Cocirio responds.

“To make a premise, the budget projections do not reflect the club’s sporting ambitions. In this year's budget, we have planned to reach the playoffs, but we all expect to do much better.”

Is there a change in strategy regarding capital gains? Or is the Tonali case an isolated incident? Cocirio responds.

“We do not need to sell players; these are opportunistic situations that we evaluate on a case-by-case basis based on the offers the club receives. We can afford to choose thanks to the soundness of our budgets.”

What is the situation with AIMC? Cocirio responds.

“There has been no reduction in tickets reserved for AIMC; they remain the same as agreed between us and them. We met last week and are discussing the issues raised by AIMC, trying to find an agreement that works for both parties.”

What is the status of negotiations for an agreement with Congo? Scaroni responds.

“In the midst of these negotiations, we maintain a certain level of confidentiality. The negotiation is still ongoing and has not been finalized. It’s an initiative that encompasses both commercial aspects and important social projects, particularly through the Milan Foundation.”

Given these constant revenue increases, how close is the goal of reaching 500 million euros? Scaroni responds.

“I would like that, but I don’t recall ever talking about that figure. If you ask me, I’ve never said it. In these figures, both our effort and work, as well as performance in the Champions League, play a role, which is crucial for significantly improving revenue. Sporting and economic results go hand in hand.”

What will be the next moves regarding the postponement? How do you plan to protect the name of Milan? Scaroni responds.

“All decisions made by public authorities, like those of the mayor, can be subject to challenges regarding their legitimacy, especially when they are incomprehensible, and it’s unclear why we couldn’t play behind closed doors. It’s an unjust decision. It doesn’t make sense why football should be excluded while other events can take place. This opens the door to a potential legal challenge. It’s difficult to quantify the damage we’ve suffered, but not playing until February creates a significant problem for us. We are seriously evaluating this issue. I am very angry, and when I’m angry, I act; I don’t remain passive. I will dedicate myself to this situation.”

It has been said that the Revenue Agency estimates the value of San Siro at around 200 million euros... Scaroni responds.

“I won’t get into making economic calculations based on hypotheses. It’s not about a 200 million check to pay; it’s a complex issue. There’s a tunnel to build... The matter is intricate. Until we and Inter have a clear picture, it will be difficult to move forward. The San Donato project remains central to our strategy; it’s a very important issue. Just 3 or 4 months ago, San Siro seemed impossible due to issues related to the second ring. Now we have overcome that hurdle and can look ahead. But that doesn’t mean all problems are solved. Once this analysis is complete, we will need to do the math. The path is still long. I still have scars from 5 years of attempts with San Siro, so I maintain a certain level of concern. San Donato remains the main option for our new stadium.”

Do you expect to close this year with a balanced budget, regardless of capital gains? Cocirio responds.

“We expect to close with a small profit or a slight loss, barring significant sales like that of Tonali last year.”
