Carlos Passerini, giornalista, si è così espresso sul suo canale Youtube sul futuro di Mike Maignan: "Sta cambiando qualcosa nel braccio di ferro tra Maignan e il Milan? Tutto nasce da un errore di strategia del Milan, che aveva offerto a Maignan una proposta di rinnovo per poi ritirarla di fronte alle prestazioni non adeguate del portiere, ma anche per una strategia sbagliata. E oggi si ritrova con un portiere in scadenza. Sarebbe stato più sensato portare fino in fondo quella trattativa: si parlava di 5 milioni a stagione. Con quei 5 milioni e il piano portato fino in fondo, non si troverebbe in questa situazione scomoda. Dopo il Chelsea, altre offerte per ora non ci sono. E quindi cosa fare? C'è una prova di pace. Allegri ha parlato con Maignan: gli ha detto che punta su di lui, che lo vorrebbe titolare, che non ha alcun dubbio sul suo stato di forma.

Poi questo non vuol dire che Maignan non possa andare via da qui a settembre, perché la sua richiesta è stata chiara. Ma apprezzo il lavoro di Allegri: con la sua capacità di entrare nella testa dei giocatori, sta cercando di fare quello che gli serve. Poi se arrivasse una offerta da 20-25 milioni di euro Maignan sarebbe ceduto, ma non è interesse di nessuno, in questo caso, arrivare allo scontro. Non si vuole forzare la mano, non si vuole esacerbare i toni. E magari, chissà, non si possa arrivare ad un ritorno di fiamma, ad un sorprendente rinnovo di contratto".

"Is something changing in the tug-of-war between Maignan and Milan? It all stems from a strategic mistake by Milan, who had offered Maignan a renewal proposal only to withdraw it after the goalkeeper’s performances were not up to par—but also due to a poor strategy. And now they find themselves with a goalkeeper whose contract is running out. It would have made more sense to carry that negotiation through to the end: they were talking about 5 million per season. With those 5 million and a consistent plan, they wouldn’t be in this uncomfortable situation.

After Chelsea, there haven’t been any other offers so far. So what now? There’s a truce attempt. Allegri spoke with Maignan: he told him he’s counting on him, that he wants him as a starter, that he has no doubts about his physical condition.

That doesn’t mean Maignan won’t leave between now and September, because his request has been clear. But I appreciate Allegri’s work: with his ability to get inside players’ heads, he’s trying to do what needs to be done. Then, if a 20–25 million euro offer comes in, Maignan would be sold—but no one is interested, in this case, in escalating things. They don’t want to force anything or raise the tension. And maybe, who knows, there could even be a rekindling of the flame—a surprising contract renewal."
