Sergio Conceiçao, allenatore del Milan, si è così espresso a SkySport al termine di Udinese-Milan.

Come sta Maignan?

"Due tre cose che ho visto mi hanno impressionato. La preoccupazione per due uomini che sono in difficoltà e ho sentito il pubblico applaudire: devo fare i complimenti ai tifosi dell'Udinese. Loro hanno fischiato il giocatore, ma poi, quando c'è qualcosa sull'uomo, lo hanno applaudito; è un gesto incredibile, che non ho mai visto in 40 anni di calcio. Complimenti a loro. Mike è in ospedale e farà i suoi esami. È stato un gesto molto bello".

Bastava metterli a tre?

"Quando c'è stata la sosta, abbiamo lavorato su questo sistema. Poi non potevo cambiare perché in tanti erano tornati a due giorni dalla partita. I giocatori hanno sposato questa idea con la palla e senza palla, con i terzini più protetti. Avevo delle buone sensazioni: non sempre le dimostriamo sul campo, ma oggi sì. Poi okay: oggi sono tre punti e pensiamo già alla prossima partita. Ho visto una squadra solida, compatta, come vogliamo noi. La squadra è disponibile. Molto importante avere le settimane libere".

È la vittoria più importante da quando è qui?

"La vittoria più importante deve arrivare ancora".

Come ha visto Theo?

"Offensivamente è tra i migliori al mondo nel suo ruolo. Poi difensivamente volevamo un po' più di aggressività. Così è molto più protetto. I nostri difensori centrale hanno interpretato molto bene la partita. Tutti hanno fatto una buona squadra. Theo così si sente più protetto".

Jovic importante?

"A livello offensivo volevamo supporto alla profondità con l'ampiezza di Theo e Jimenez e il lavoro incontro per dare la profondità. Loro sono forti a livello fisico, mentre soffrono la velocità. Jovic ha fatto molto molto bene".

Crede all'Europa?

"Pensiamo a lavorare. Non bisogna parlare più di tanto, fino ad oggi abbiamo parlato tanto e ciò che conta sono i risultati".

How is Maignan?

“There were two or three things I saw that really impressed me. One was the concern for two players in difficulty, and I heard the crowd applaud them: I have to compliment the Udinese fans. They initially booed the player, but then, when it came to a human moment, they applauded—an incredible gesture I’ve never seen in 40 years of football. Truly, hats off to them. Mike is in the hospital and will undergo some tests. It was a beautiful gesture.”

Was it just a matter of switching to a back three?

“During the international break, we worked on this system. Then I couldn’t make the change immediately because many players only returned two days before the match. The players embraced this idea, both in and out of possession, with the full-backs being more protected. I had a good feeling about it—not always do we show it on the pitch, but today we did. Still, it’s just three points, and now we’re already thinking about the next match. I saw a solid, compact team, just the way we want it. The squad is showing willingness. Having full weeks to prepare is really important.”

Is this your most important win since you arrived?

“The most important victory is still yet to come.”

What did you think of Theo?

“Offensively, he’s among the best in the world in his role. Defensively, we wanted a bit more aggression. Now he’s more protected in this setup. Our center-backs interpreted the match very well. Everyone played as a true team. With this setup, Theo feels more secure.”

Was Jovic important?

“In attack, we wanted to create depth with Theo and Jiménez providing width, and Jovic dropping deeper to support and then create space in behind. They’re strong physically, but struggle with speed. Jovic did very, very well.”

Do you believe in qualifying for Europe?

“We’re focused on working hard. We shouldn’t talk too much—until now there’s been a lot of talk, but in the end, what matters are the results.”
