Le parole di mister Sergio Conceiçao dopo Milan Lazio 1-2.

Qual è il suo umore: può dare ancora qualcosa a questo gruppo?
"Il momento non è per niente facile, lo sappiamo. I giocatori sentono quello che c'è attorno al club. C'è una strada sola: lavorare e avere il massimo orgoglio per questi colori che difendiamo, dando il massimo tutti i giorni per cambiare la situazione. Ci sono anche episodi che succedono durante la partita, negativi per noi e decisivi per l'avversario: ma non voglio parlare di sfortuna"


Perché una squadra con le spalle al muro ha un approccio così difficile?
"Parliamo sempre della stessa cosa. Noi abbiamo preparato la partita in pochissimo tempo, abbiamo parlato di questo ambiente ed è stato strano: prima volta che mi succede in carriera. I giocatori lo sentono: io sono stato giocatore e sappiamo che quando è così le scarpe sono bollenti. Non è facile: quando non riesce un dribbling, un passaggio e l'avversario fa gol... La squadra ha dimostrato grande carattere quando è rimasta in dieci, potevamo anche vincere. Alla fine succede questo rigore. I giocatori mi danno risposte positive: una cosa è tra di noi in allenamento, dopo è entrare in una situazione difficile che c'è da inizio stagione. Cerchiamo di lavorare anche su questo non solo su piano tattico e fisico"


Un dato: le corse all'indietro. Quando c'è da andare avanti alcuni calciatori vanno veloci, quando devono andare indietro non arrivano mai a quella velocità... Come si trasferisce a questi ragazzi tutto questo?
"Molto importante. Noi stiamo lavorando anche su quello. Ormai la partita è fatta con la palla per cercare di smontare l'organizzazione difensiva avversaria e quando non hai la palla devi avere la stessa disponibilità: alle volte fatichiamo su questo punto. È tutto correlato: se sei forte nelle transizioni difensive, sei forte anche quando attacchi. Credo che ci sono giocatori bravi tecnicamente e possono fare la differenza a livello offensivo ma devono mettersi in testa che sono importanti per la squadra anche in difesa. Abbiamo bisogno di trovare un equilibrio importante per vincere le partite, perché le qualità tecniche le abbiamo"

There are also episodes that happen during the game, negative for us and decisive for the opponent, but I don’t want to talk about bad luck."

Why does a team with its back against the wall struggle so much at the start?
"We always talk about the same thing. We prepared for the match in very little time, we talked about this atmosphere, and it was strange: it's the first time this has happened to me in my career. The players feel it. I was a player, and we know that when it’s like this, your boots feel like they’re burning. It’s not easy: when a dribble doesn’t work, a pass fails, and the opponent scores... The team showed great character when we were down to ten men, we could have even won. Then in the end, that penalty happened. The players are giving me positive responses. One thing is working together in training, but then they have to step into a tough situation that has been there since the start of the season. We are trying to work on this, not just tactically and physically."

One statistic: running backward. When moving forward, some players are fast, but when they have to track back, they never reach the same speed... How do you transfer this mentality to the players?
"It’s very important. We are working on that too. Nowadays, the game is about having the ball to break down the opponent’s defensive organization, and when you don’t have the ball, you need to show the same commitment. Sometimes we struggle with this. It’s all connected: if you are strong in defensive transitions, you are strong when attacking too. I believe we have technically skilled players who can make a difference offensively, but they need to understand that they are just as important for the team in defense. We need to find the right balance to win games because we have the technical quality."
