MODRIC: "HO ANCORA FAME DI VINCERE. IL MILAN NON PUÒ ESSERE SODDISFATTO DELLA MEDIOCRITÀ"

Luka Modric ha rilasciato queste dichiarazioni ai microfoni di Milan TV:

Sulla foto da bambino con la tuta del Milan: “E' una foto belissima. Da bambino guardavo molto la Serie A e il Milan era la mia squadra preferita. A quell'epoca noi in Croazia guardavamo molto il Milan perchè era uno dei club più seguiti al mondo. C'era anche il mio idolo Boban. Adesso sono molto felice di essere qui e non vedo l'ora di iniziare questa nuova avventura”.

Sul motivo per cui ha scelto il Milan: “Volevo rimanere in Europa per continuare a giocare un calcio competitivo. Avevo altre offerte, ma quando mi ha chiamato il Milan per me era chiaro. Lo volevo dal primo minuto. Mi ha impressionato anche il fatto che il ds Tare è venuto in Croazia per presentarmi il progetto e tutto il Milan. E' stato molto importante per me, mi ha dimostrato quanto volessero portarmi qui. Poi il Milan è uno dei più grande club in Europa. Il Milan non può essere soddisfatto della mediocrità, bisogna porsi gli obiettivi più grandi possibili: vincere titoli e competere con le migliori squadre nel mondo. Ecco perchè sono qui”.

Su cosa intende portare nello spogliatoio del Milan: “Prima tutto vengo con molto rispetto per tutti quanti: giocatori, allenatori e società in generale. Voglio portare la mia fame di vincere, aiutare i compagni sotto tutti i punti di vista e lavorare sodo per gudagnare il mio posto in squadra. Non è mai facile, devi lavorare sodo e lottare”.

Sulla Serie A: “Ho guardato molto il calcio italiano, è un campionato molto competitvo che è cresciuto molto. Ci sono molti giocatori croati che militano in Italia e mi piace seguire i miei compagni di nazionale. Ci sono grandi squadre, bravi giocatori. E' un campionato molto tattico e fisico”.

A proposito della sua longevità in campo: “Dico sempre che per me la cosa più importante è l'amore: l'amore per il gioco e per il calcio. Ce l'ho ancora, sento di avere questo fuoco ancora dentro di me. E' questo che mi spinge. Poi c'è anche il fatto di lavorare bene, prepararsi per essere al massimo e vivere una vita sana. Non ci sono grandi segrete, ma per me quello che conta di più sono la passione e l'amore per il calcio”.

Sul numero 14: “Mi piace questo numero. So che al Milan il numero 10 è indossato da un grandissimo giocatore come Leao. Lui è il presente e il futuro del Milan. Visto che il 10 non era libero ho dovuto sceglierne un altro. Ho preso il 14 perchè mi piace, l'ho indossato anche in nazionale, all'inizo della mia carriera e al Tottenham. Ho portato, spero andrà bene anche qui”.

Sui traguardi ancora da raggiungere: “Ho raggiunto tanti traguardi, più di quelli che mi sarei aspettato. Sono felice e grato di quello che ho fatto. Non mi sento mai soddisfatto, voglio sempre di più, specialmente a livello professionale. Quando vinci, quanto hai questo sentimento lo vuoi sempre riprovare. Ecco perchè ho ancora la voglia e la fame di vincere”.

Sulla vita privata: “Fuori dal campo ho fatto tutto ciò che volevo: ho una bellissima famiglia, una moglie e tre figli. Questa per me è la cosa più importante, non ho bisogno di nient'altro. Con mia moglie voglio solo trasmettere dei valori importanti ai miei figli: essere rispettosi e umili come i miei genitori hanno insegnato a me e alle mie sorelle. Questo è quello che ho, sono molto felice e grato per questo”.

Modric ha concluso l’intervista con un messaggio ai tifosi del Milan: “Sono davvero felice di essere al Milan. Non vedo l'ora di vedervi a San Siro. Speriamo di rendervi felici e di regalarvi tanti bei momenti in questa stagione per rendervi orgogliosi di noi e festeggiare molte vittorie insieme. Forza Milan!”.

About the childhood photo wearing a Milan *tracksuit: “It’s a beautiful photo. As a kid, I watched Serie A a lot and Milan was my favorite team. Back then in Croatia we watched Milan a lot because it was one of the most popular clubs in the world. My idol Boban was there too. Now I’m very happy to be here and I can’t wait to start this new adventure.”

On why he chose Milan: “I wanted to stay in Europe to keep playing competitive football. I had other offers, but when Milan called, it was clear for me. I wanted it from the first moment. I was also impressed that sporting director Tare came to Croatia to present the project and the whole Milan idea to me. That was very important, it showed me how much they wanted me here. And Milan is one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Milan cannot be satisfied with mediocrity, you have to set the highest goals possible: to win trophies and compete with the best teams in the world. That’s why I’m here.”

On what he wants to bring to the Milan *dressing room: “First of all, I come with great respect for everyone: players, coaches and the whole club. I want to bring my hunger to win, help my teammates in every way and work hard to earn my place in the team. It’s never easy, you have to work hard and fight.”

About Serie A: “I’ve watched Italian football a lot, it’s a very competitive league that has grown a lot. There are many Croatian players in Italy and I like to follow my national teammates. There are great teams, great players. It’s a very tactical and physical league.”

On his longevity in football: “I always say that for me the most important thing is love: love for the game and for football. I still have it, I feel this fire still inside me. That’s what drives me. Then it’s also about working well, preparing to be at your best and living a healthy life. There are no big secrets, but for me what matters most is passion and love for football.”

About the number 14: “I like this number. I know that at Milan the number 10 is worn by a great player like Leao. He is the present and the future of Milan. Since 10 wasn’t available I had to choose another. I took 14 because I like it, I wore it with the national team, at the start of my career and at Tottenham. I brought it here too, I hope it goes well here as well.”

About his dreams yet to achieve: “I’ve reached many goals, more than I ever expected. I’m happy and grateful for what I’ve done. I never feel satisfied, I always want more, especially professionally. When you win, when you have that feeling, you always want to feel it again. That’s why I still have the desire and hunger to win.”

On his life off the pitch: “Off the field I’ve done everything I wanted: I have a wonderful family, a wife and three kids. That’s the most important thing for me, I don’t need anything else. With my wife I just want to pass on important values to my children: to be respectful and humble, like my parents taught me and my sisters. That’s what I have, and I’m very happy and grateful for it.”

Modric ended the interview with this message to Milan *fans: “I’m really happy to be at Milan. I can’t wait to see you at San Siro. We hope to make you happy and give you many beautiful moments this season to make you proud of us and celebrate many victories together. Forza Milan!”
