LO STRANO CASO DI ORIGI. FUORI ROSA DA OLTRE UN ANNO, MA ANCORA A LIBRO PAGA

Nel prossimo Milan non ci sarà soltanto l’esigenza di rinforzare l’organico, ma anche quella di ridurre il numero di giocatori in rosa. Analizzando il reparto offensivo a disposizione di Massimiliano Allegri, diversi calciatori sembrano destinati a lasciare la squadra: Francesco Camada e Lorenzo Colombo, ad esempio, cercheranno spazio altrove. Si sta valutando una nuova destinazione anche per Noah Okafor, mentre Marko Lazetic – rientrato dal prestito al TSC Backa Topola – non sembra più rientrare nei progetti tecnici.

Resta poi il caso di Divock Origi, avvolto da un fitto mistero. Che fine ha fatto?

La sua ultima apparizione ufficiale risale al 21 aprile 2024, quando vestiva la maglia del Nottingham Forest disputando gli ultimi dieci minuti del match contro l’Everton. Una stagione deludente, chiusa con 22 presenze e una sola rete, segnata in FA Cup contro una squadra di Championship. Il 21 maggio, il club inglese aveva comunicato che non lo avrebbe riscattato dal Milan. I rossoneri, dal canto loro, lo avevano escluso dai piani futuri e lo aggregano alla squadra Under 23, in attesa di una sistemazione.

Il problema è che nessuna offerta concreta è arrivata per il giocatore: il suo stipendio da 4 milioni risulta troppo elevato e le sue ultime annate troppo deludenti per attirare interesse. Di lui si sono quasi perse le tracce: con l’approvazione del club, si allena in autonomia, lontano da Milanello. È stato avvistato a Roma, e poi a Firenze, dove si è esercitato per un paio di settimane – tra fine agosto e inizio settembre – nel campo del Porta Romana, una realtà dilettantistica fiorentina. Sempre da solo, assistito soltanto dal proprio preparatore atletico. Sempre lontano dai riflettori, spostandosi di città in città per mantenere un minimo di forma in attesa di un’opportunità.

Giunto al Milan nell’estate 2022 a parametro zero, Origi aveva firmato un ricco contratto quadriennale che oggi pesa come un fardello per il club, che dovrà continuare a pagarlo fino al 30 giugno 2026. Ciò a meno che non si trovi un accordo per la rescissione, oppure che una squadra decida di scommettere su di lui. Dopo un anno passato nell’ombra, però, questa eventualità appare poco probabile. A 30 anni compiuti, il belga sembra già avviato verso un precoce declino. E pensare che sei anni fa andava a segno in Champions League, contribuendo ai successi del Liverpool. Gol che gli hanno permesso, in un certo senso, di vivere di rendita.

That season turned out to be a flop, with 22 appearances and just one goal scored—in the FA Cup, against a Championship team. On May 21, the English club announced they would not make his move permanent. On the other hand, Milan excluded him from their project and sent him to train with the Under-23 squad, awaiting a new opportunity.

Unfortunately for the player, no offers have come in: his €4 million salary is too steep, and his recent performances too disappointing to attract interest. He has virtually disappeared from the scene. With the club’s authorization, he’s been training on his own—though not at Milanello. He was seen in Rome, then in Florence, where he trained for a couple of weeks—between late August and early September—on the field of Porta Romana, an amateur club. Always alone, accompanied only by his fitness coach. Always discreet, moving from place to place to stay in decent shape while waiting for a call.

Arriving at Milan in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer, Origi signed a lucrative four-year contract that has become a burden for the club, which is still paying him until June 30. Unless an agreement is reached for an early termination, or a club decides to take a chance on him, the situation remains unresolved. But after a year of inactivity, that seems unlikely. Now 30, the Belgian striker already appears to be heading toward early retirement. And to think that six years ago he was scoring crucial goals in the Champions League, helping Liverpool to triumphs. Goals that, in a way, allowed him to live off past glory.
