LEAO: "IL MILAN MI HA FATTO CRESCERE. VOGLIO CONTINUARE A GIOCARE AD ALTO LIVELLO"

Rafael Leao ha rilasciato una lunga intervista ad Icon Magazine nella quale ha parlato di diversi temi. Ecco le sue parole:

Sull'arrivo al Milan nel 2019: "Sì, ne è passato di tempo. Sono arrivato che avevo vent’anni, mi sentivo un ragazzino. Ora, invece, sono diventato un uomo: il club, con tutto il suo staff, dai compagni di squadra ai dirigenti, mi ha fatto crescere. Tutti i giorni, stagione dopo stagione, mi hanno dato e insegnato tanto. Devo ringraziare tutti quelli che sono stati al mio fianco in questi anni al Milan: ognuno è stato importante per la mia crescita".

Sulle critiche: "Solitamente non leggo le critiche. Se te le fanno è perché sei bravo in quello che fai e ci si aspetta tanto da te. Comunque non sento la pressione perché adoro il calcio, è la cosa più bella che c’è per me. Sono nato giocando a calcio; ogni volta che entro in campo cerco di sfruttare al massimo la possibilità di fare ciò che più amo. Ovviamente è anche un lavoro, che affronto sempre con responsabilità, ma anche con la voglia di divertirmi con i miei compagni e di sfruttare l’occasione".

Sulle partite che porta nel cuore: "Tra quelle con la Nazionale, la partita contro il Ghana, a Qatar 2022, quando ho fatto il mio debutto in una competizione mondiale (con tanto di gol, il primo con la maglia del Portogallo, ndr). Con il Milan la partita contro il Sassuolo fuori casa, l’ultima di campionato, maggio 2022, che ci ha poi regalato lo scudetto".

Sulle sue qualità nei dribbling: "Il dribbling è forse proprio il simbolo della mia serenità in campo: la gente parla, c’è pressione, ma io quando sono sul rettangolo di gioco riesco a mettere da parte tutto. Scatta una sfida con me stesso. Il mio obiettivo: cercare di fare sempre meglio".

Sul suo rapporto con Milano: "Ci sono solo cose positive a Milano. Ci sono tanti milanisti, si mangia bene, il clima è simile a quello del Portogallo. La mia famiglia si sente a casa qui. Se mi manca il mio paese? Ovviamente sì, c’è parte della mia famiglia in Portogallo, i miei figli sono nati là, sarà sempre un pezzo di cuore. Però l’Italia mi ha dato tanto, fa parte della mia crescita: la porterò per sempre dentro di me".

Sulla sua passione per la moda: "Io sono un ragazzo semplice, quindi mi piacciono le cose semplici: mi piace vestirmi comodo, non mi faccio influenzare né indosso qualcosa per piacere agli altri. Milano è bella anche per questo: c’è la Fashion Week, c’è bella gente che si veste bene. Da quando sono arrivato ho imparato molto anche a livello di stile. Com’è nata la mia passione per la moda? Grazie a mio padre, da quando ero bambino. Non avevamo tanto, però anche con il poco che avevamo lui cercava sempre di vestirmi bene, di mettermi le scarpe belle. E anche lui era attento a vestirsi bene e interessato alla moda".

Sulla musica: "Ascolto di tutto, ogni genere musicale. Dipende dal mood, da come mi sveglio la mattina. Metto ogni tipo di musica sulla base del mio umore. Ibrahimovic non era contento all'inizio della mia carriera da rapper? C’è un tempo giusto per ogni cosa. Lui è uno che punta alla massima concentrazione dentro e fuori del campo, però ha capito la mia personalità, che la musica è una cosa che mi appartiene, e anche che sono una persona responsabile e, come calciatore, non sono distratto da questa mia passione".

Sull'essere padre: "Ho imparato il valore del tempo, ad approfittare di ogni momento con i miei figli. Quando sono triste, appena arrivo a casa e li vedo mi dimentico di tutte le difficoltà perché loro sono la mia forza. Il loro sorriso mi dà energia. Possono esserci problemi e problemi però loro mi danno lo stimolo per attraversare ogni cosa. Sono due bambini bellissimi. Spero di poter dar loro uno splendido futuro",

Su cosa gli piace fare nel tempo libero: "Stare a casa e riposare. Io dormo tanto. La vita di un calciatore non è così facile come può sembrare. Pare che possiamo fare e comprare tutto però il riposo e stare con la propria famiglia sono la cosa più importante. Non ci sono soldi che possono comprarli. Quindi, terminato l’allenamento, sto a casa con la mia famiglia, con i miei bambini. Quando sono da solo cerco di riposare al massimo e di mettere in ordine le mie idee sulle prossime cose che voglio realizzare".

Sul suo futuro: "Ho ancora tanti obiettivi da raggiungere: voglio continuare a divertirmi e a giocare ad alto livello".

On arriving at Milan in 2019:
“Yes, a lot of time has passed. I arrived when I was twenty, I felt like a kid. Now, I’ve become a man: the club, with all its staff, from my teammates to the directors, helped me grow. Every day, season after season, they gave and taught me a lot. I have to thank everyone who stood by my side during these years at Milan: each of them played an important role in my development.”

On criticism:
“I usually don’t read criticism. If people criticize you, it’s because you’re good at what you do and they expect a lot from you. Still, I don’t feel pressure because I love football, it’s the most beautiful thing for me. I was born playing football; every time I step onto the pitch, I try to make the most of the chance to do what I love most. Of course, it’s also a job, and I approach it with responsibility, but also with the desire to have fun with my teammates and make the most of the opportunity.”

On the most meaningful matches:
“Among the ones with the national team, the match against Ghana at Qatar 2022, when I made my debut in a World Cup (and scored my first goal for Portugal). With Milan, the match against Sassuolo away from home, the last of the season in May 2022, which gave us the Scudetto.”

On his dribbling skills:
“Dribbling is perhaps the symbol of my peace of mind on the pitch: people talk, there’s pressure, but when I’m on the field I can leave everything behind. It becomes a challenge with myself. My goal: to always do better.”

On his relationship with Milan:
“Only positive things about Milan. There are so many Milan fans, the food is great, the weather is similar to Portugal. My family feels at home here. Do I miss my country? Of course, some of my family is still in Portugal, my children were born there — it will always be a piece of my heart. But Italy has given me a lot, it’s part of my growth, and I will carry it inside me forever.”

On his passion for fashion:
“I’m a simple guy, so I like simple things: I like to dress comfortably, I don’t let myself be influenced or wear something just to please others. Milan is also great for this: there’s Fashion Week, and well-dressed people everywhere. Since I arrived, I’ve learned a lot in terms of style. How did my passion for fashion start? Thanks to my father, since I was a child. We didn’t have much, but even with what little we had, he always tried to dress me well, to put me in nice shoes. And he too was careful about how he dressed and was interested in fashion.”

On music:
“I listen to everything, every genre. It depends on my mood, on how I wake up in the morning. I play different kinds of music depending on my emotions. Was Ibrahimović unhappy at the start of my rap career? There’s a right time for everything. He’s someone who demands maximum focus on and off the pitch, but he understood my personality, that music is something that belongs to me. He also saw that I’m responsible and that, as a footballer, I don’t let this passion distract me.”

On being a father:
“I’ve learned the value of time, to cherish every moment with my children. When I’m feeling down, as soon as I get home and see them, I forget all the difficulties because they are my strength. Their smiles give me energy. Problems may come, but they give me the motivation to overcome everything. They are two beautiful kids. I hope I can give them a wonderful future.”

On what he likes to do in his free time:
“Stay at home and rest. I sleep a lot. A footballer’s life is not as easy as it may seem. It looks like we can do and buy anything, but rest and being with your family is the most important thing. No amount of money can buy that. So, after training, I stay home with my family, with my kids. When I’m alone, I try to rest as much as possible and organize my thoughts about the next goals I want to achieve.”

On his future:
“I still have many goals to achieve: I want to keep enjoying myself and playing at the highest level.”
