Sulla vicenda del portavoce:

“Mi dispiace per questa situazione, non capisco cosa mi abbia fatto questo ex collaboratore né se sia stato pagato da qualcuno. Una giornalista mi ha chiamato e mi ha mostrato degli screenshot relativi alla questione. Credo lo abbia fatto per cattiveria. Mi dispiace per tutti, anche per chi lavora qui al Milan. Noi siamo sempre presenti, sia Zlatan che Geoff. Questa settimana abbiamo avuto l’opportunità di lavorare con tutto il gruppo, incluso Florenzi, che è rientrato. È stata una settimana pulita, dedicata al lavoro. Dopo Porto mi sono trovato in una situazione complicata, ma non ne ho ancora parlato. Ora è una questione legale: chi ha pagato e perché l’ha fatto, se ne occuperanno nelle sedi opportune.”

Che settimana è stata per lei?

“Importante, perché abbiamo potuto lavorare su alcuni aspetti con giocatori che non avevano mai avuto l’occasione di approfondirli. La voglia di vincere deve essere sempre presente in chi difende questa maglia. In allenamento valuto chi mi dà più garanzie per iniziare la partita, e tutti hanno risposto bene. Sta a me scegliere la strategia migliore per vincere una partita difficile.”

Come si allontana questa negatività?

“Con i risultati. Per ottenerli servono due cose: lavorare al massimo e migliorare come squadra. Serve anche un po’ più di fortuna. Vincere cambia tutto. Per me è una novità perdere tre partite di fila, ma l’unico modo per uscirne è lavorare con convinzione.”

Come farà a tenere la squadra motivata ora che molti obiettivi sono sfumati?

“Ogni tre giorni giochiamo partite decisive. Abbiamo ancora 13 partite sicure, 11 in campionato e 2 in Coppa Italia. Inzaghi ha detto che possono vincere tre derby, noi possiamo vincerne due. Dobbiamo pensare solo alla prossima partita senza farci distrarre.”

Ha la sensazione che i giocatori vogliano reagire?

“Sì. Quando sono arrivato, abbiamo vissuto dieci giorni incredibili con la Supercoppa, ma poi contro il Cagliari abbiamo perso quell’anima. Dopo Zagabria ci sono stati errori miei e dei giocatori, poi le due partite con il Feyenoord… episodi sfortunati. Ad esempio, contro il Feyenoord stavamo facendo bene, poi l’espulsione ha cambiato tutto. Dobbiamo ritrovare quell’anima, altrimenti rischiamo di entrare in un tunnel pericoloso. So che sono solo parole, ma per me e per i tifosi pesa questa situazione. So di dovermi giustificare ogni giorno per il mio ruolo, ma la negatività va superata con il lavoro e con le vittorie.”

Domani escluderà alcuni big?

“Io voglio vincere, non sono masochista. Scelgo in base alla condizione fisica e alle prestazioni in allenamento. Nessuno ha il posto garantito, gioca chi mi dà più certezze. Se c’è un leader che paga, sono io.”

Quanto manca per vedere il Milan che vuole lei tatticamente?

“Ci stiamo lavorando. È stata una settimana importante per migliorare alcune dinamiche di gioco.”

Gimenez è pronto o risente ancora dell’infortunio?

“Si sta adattando a un campionato difficile come quello italiano, è normale. Sta lavorando bene e ha fatto una buona settimana di allenamenti. Molti giocatori, come Retegui, hanno avuto difficoltà all’inizio. Non è facile arrivare e segnare subito 15-20 gol, ma sta lavorando con impegno.”

Errori fuori contesto nei momenti decisivi: sintomo di troppa emotività?

“Cerchiamo di mantenere la calma, ma quest’anno l’ambiente non è stato ideale fin dall’inizio. Dobbiamo concentrarci su ciò che possiamo controllare: la prestazione.”

Cosa ha sbagliato Conceição?

“Come tutti gli allenatori, ho fatto degli errori, ma ho sempre agito con l’intenzione di fare il meglio. Anche nei momenti difficili, questa esperienza mi sta facendo crescere.”

Come state vivendo la situazione dall’interno?

“Restiamo concentrati sul lavoro. Zlatan e Moncada sono qui ogni giorno per il bene della squadra. Fuori si possono fare tutti i giudizi, anche da chi in passato è stato mio allenatore. Sacchi due mesi fa mi definiva un signor allenatore, ora mi critica ogni giorno. Rispetto le opinioni, ma il nostro compito è guardare avanti.”

Cosa ha notato sui leader della squadra?

“Da allenatore devo essere obiettivo: Leao, Theo e Maignan sono grandi persone e professionisti, ma come tutti hanno alti e bassi. Hanno già dimostrato di poter fare la differenza al Milan.”

A Zagabria parlò di una base che mancava. Ora c’è?

“A Zagabria subimmo un gol evitabile, poi l’espulsione di Musah complicò tutto. Quando parlavo di base, intendevo l’ambizione di arrivare agli ottavi. Io vivo le cose in modo intenso, è il mio carattere. Anche se vinco, non sorrido mai troppo. È il mio sogno professionale essere qui al Milan e darò tutto. Questa base è l’atteggiamento giusto e la voglia di migliorare. La vedo? Sì, altrimenti non sarei qui.”

Cosa le piacerebbe vedere del suo Porto in questo Milan?

“La solidità e la compattezza della squadra. Anche con meno qualità rispetto ai giocatori che ho oggi, il Porto era armonioso nel modo di difendere e attaccare. Tutti sapevano cosa fare. Questo è il messaggio che voglio trasmettere e che stiamo lavorando per migliorare. Vedremo già domani un Milan migliore? Accetto la sfida.”

“I regret this situation, but I don’t understand what this former collaborator did to me or whether they were paid by someone. A journalist called me and showed me some screenshots related to the issue. I believe it was done out of malice. I feel sorry for everyone, including those working here at Milan. We are always present, both Zlatan and Geoff. This week, we had the opportunity to work with the entire group, including Florenzi, who has returned. It was a clean week dedicated to work. After Porto, I found myself in a difficult situation, but I haven’t spoken about it until now. Now, it’s a legal matter: who paid and why, the appropriate authorities will handle it.”

How was this week for you?

“Important, because we were able to work on certain aspects with players who hadn’t had the chance to focus on them before. The desire to win must always be present in those who wear this jersey. In training, I assess who gives me the best guarantees to start the match, and everyone responded well. It’s up to me to choose the best strategy to win a difficult match.”

How do you move away from this negativity?

“With results. To achieve them, we need two things: working at our maximum and improving as a team. We also need a bit more luck. Winning changes everything. Losing three games in a row is new for me, but the only way out is to work with conviction.”

How will you keep the team motivated now that many objectives are out of reach?

“Every three days, we play decisive matches. We still have 13 guaranteed games, 11 in the league and 2 in the Coppa Italia. Inzaghi said they could win three derbies, we can win two. We must focus only on the next match without getting distracted.”

Do you feel the players want to react?

“Yes. When I arrived, we had ten incredible days with the Super Cup, but then against Cagliari, we lost that spirit. After Zagreb, there were mistakes from both myself and the players, then the two matches against Feyenoord… unfortunate incidents. For example, against Feyenoord, we were doing well, then the red card changed everything. We need to find that spirit again, otherwise, we risk falling into a dangerous hole. I know these are just words, but this situation weighs on me and the fans. I know I have to justify my role every day, but we must overcome negativity through work and victories.”

Will some big players be excluded tomorrow?

“I want to win, I’m not a masochist. I choose based on physical condition and training performances. No one has a guaranteed spot; the ones who give me the most certainty will play. If a leader has to take responsibility, it’s me.”

How far is the team from the tactical Milan you envision?

“We are working on it. This week has been important for improving certain game dynamics.”

Is Gimenez ready, or is he still recovering from his injury?

“He is adapting to a difficult league like Serie A, which is normal. He has been working well and had a good training week. Many players, like Retegui, struggled at first. It’s not easy to arrive and immediately score 15-20 goals, but he is working hard.”

Mistakes out of context in key moments—are they a sign of excessive emotion?

“We try to keep the players calm, but this year the environment hasn’t been ideal from the start. We must focus on what we can control: performance.”

What mistakes has Conceição made?

“Like all coaches, I have made mistakes, but I have always acted with the best intentions. Even in difficult moments, this experience helps me grow.”

How are you experiencing the situation from within?

“We stay focused on our work. Zlatan and Moncada are here every day to do what’s best for the team. External judgments will always be there, even from those who were once my coaches. Two months ago, Sacchi called me a great coach; now he criticizes me daily. I respect opinions, but our job is to look forward.”

What have you noticed about the team’s leaders?

“As a coach, I must be objective: Leao, Theo, and Maignan are great people and professionals, but like everyone, they have ups and downs. They have already proven they can make a difference at Milan.”

After Zagreb, you said the team lacked a foundation. Is it there now?

“In Zagreb, we conceded a goal that rarely happens, then Musah’s red card made things worse. When I talked about a foundation, I meant the ambition to reach the Round of 16. I experience things intensely—it’s my nature. Even when I win, I don’t smile too much. Being here at Milan is my dream job, and I will give everything. This foundation means having the right attitude and the desire to improve. Do I see it? Yes, otherwise, I wouldn’t be here.”

What would you like to see from your Porto in this Milan?

“The solidity and compactness of the team. Even with less quality than the players I have today, Porto had harmony in the way they defended and attacked. Everyone knew what to do. This is the message I want to convey, and we are working to improve it. Will we see a better Milan tomorrow? After just a week? Alright, I accept the challenge.”
