Ecco le parole di Samuele Ricci durante la sua conferenza stampa di presentazione

La sensazione che si percepisce guardandoti è che trasmetti energia. È ciò che provi dentro?

"È il momento migliore della mia carriera. Il Torino mi ha dato tanto, ho fatto anche un post di ringraziamento. Però adesso ho fatto una scelta e un passo importante, sono al Milan che vanta una grandissima storia e un prestigio enorme a livello mondiale. Sono qui per ripagare la fiducia che mi è stata data da tutta la società e darò il massimo per riuscirci."

Com’è stato il primo impatto con Allegri?

"È stato davvero molto positivo. È senza dubbio un grande allenatore, tra i più vincenti. La cosa bella è che è sempre molto solare, come noi toscani, sempre con la battuta pronta. Abbiamo un ottimo feeling."

Senti il peso di rappresentare l’Italia? Hai parlato con qualche compagno?

"Avevo già parlato con Matteo Gabbia, mi aveva raccontato di tutto ciò che riguarda la società e lo spogliatoio. Ne ha parlato benissimo. Appena arrivato ho subito percepito un ambiente che sembra una grande famiglia, dove tutti lavorano nella stessa direzione per farci rendere al massimo e stare bene."

Come hai vissuto questo lungo interesse del Milan?

"Credo che nella carriera di un calciatore, specialmente quando è giovane, sia normale essere accostati a club importanti se fai bene. Mi era già capitato quando ero all’Empoli. Sono voci che fanno piacere ma non devono distrarti. Quando poi diventa realtà è un’altra cosa, all’inizio faticavo a crederci. Chi mi conosce sa che non ho avuto dubbi nel scegliere il Milan, farò di tutto per ripagare la fiducia sia sul campo sia fuori."

Eri curioso di conoscere qualche nuovo compagno?

"Forse più di tutti Leao. Da avversario si vede subito che ha qualcosa in più, poi lo conosci di persona e capisci che molte cose che si dicono non sono vere: è tranquillissimo e davvero un bravo ragazzo."

Da bambino tifavi Milan?

"Me l’aspettavo questa domanda. Il Milan è uno dei club più prestigiosi al mondo, fin da piccolo l’ho sempre seguito, ho ammirato i suoi giocatori. Non posso dire di non conoscerli: conosco quasi tutti quelli che hanno fatto parte di questa grande famiglia. Ora ne faccio parte io e so bene quanto valga questa maglia. Darò tutto."

Hai parlato con Allegri del tuo ruolo?

"Non ne abbiamo discusso in modo approfondito, ma per me il ruolo in cui mi sento più a mio agio è quello di mediano in un centrocampo a tre. Se però il mister mi chiederà di giocare terzino, lo farò senza problemi."

Il numero 4 è importante: non temi la responsabilità? E come si recuperano i gol di Reijnders?

"Sicuramente è un numero pesante, specialmente in una squadra come questa. È stato indossato da tanti campioni. È un numero che mi rappresenta per il mio modo di essere e di comportarmi. Farò di tutto per dimostrare di essere all’altezza. Sui gol… cosa posso dire? (ride, ndr). Io e Tijjani abbiamo caratteristiche diverse. Ha fatto una stagione straordinaria, è tra i migliori centrocampisti al mondo, ma io sono me stesso e non amo i paragoni. Magari non segnerò 10 gol, ma darò tutto per la squadra."

Quanto sarà importante il Milan per la Nazionale?

"Credo che il Milan sarà decisivo per la mia carriera in Azzurro. È il posto giusto per crescere e migliorare. So che ci saranno difficoltà: facendo un passo così grande ti alleni con giocatori fortissimi e aumenta la competizione. Ma fa parte di questo lavoro. Ho già parlato con mister Gattuso, una chiacchierata veloce al telefono: mi ha fatto molto piacere."

Si può giocare senza mediano? Ti senti pronto?

"Finora ho sempre giocato lì, ma ho fatto anche altri ruoli. Mi piace avere il possesso, toccare tanti palloni. Rispetto a quando ero all’Empoli, al Torino penso di essere migliorato molto in fase di non possesso. Devo crescere ancora in fase difensiva e sono sicuro che Allegri mi aiuterà molto: è un maestro in questo."

Giocherai con Modric...

"Se me l’avessero detto anni fa avrei risposto ‘impossibile’. Mi troverò accanto a uno dei migliori centrocampisti del mondo, sarà fondamentale imparare tanto da lui, dentro e fuori dal campo. Dovrò essere come una spugna e assorbire tutto quello che potrà aiutarmi a crescere, da lui come dagli altri compagni."

Sul giocare sotto pressione:

"È una cosa che mi viene abbastanza naturale. Mi piace avere la palla tra i piedi, ma senza esagerare. Da mediano devi toccare meno palloni possibile e soprattutto vedere prima la giocata, come mi ha ricordato ieri il Direttore. Uno può essere lento di gambe ma se è veloce di testa può compensare."

Telefonate particolari? Cosa ti ha lasciato il Torino?

"Mi hanno contattato tantissime persone, è il passo più grande della mia carriera. Tutte persone a cui tengo, che mi vogliono bene e mi hanno sostenuto anche in questo momento. A Torino ho percepito fin da subito un affetto enorme da parte dei tifosi, un amore che mi ha accompagnato in questi tre anni. È una società con una storia importante: se sono qui lo devo anche a loro. Porto con me solo bei ricordi."

C’è qualcosa di Allegri che ti ha colpito?

"Quello che ho notato è che oltre all’entusiasmo, da parte del mister e dei compagni c’è stato subito un allenamento intenso e competitivo. È un aspetto fondamentale in una squadra. Ci sono segnali positivi per la stagione. Faremo di tutto per dare il massimo."

The feeling when watching you is that you transmit a lot of energy. Is that what you feel inside?

"This is the best moment of my career. Torino gave me a lot, I even made a thank-you post. But now I’ve made an important choice and step forward: I’m at AC Milan, which has an incredible history and huge worldwide prestige. I’m here to repay the trust the whole club has given me and I’ll do my best to do so."

How was your first contact with Allegri?

"It was super positive. He’s obviously an excellent coach, one of the most successful. The nice thing is that he’s always cheerful, like us Tuscans—we always have a joke ready. We get along very well."

Do you feel the responsibility of being an Italian? Have you spoken with any teammates?

"I had already spoken with Matteo Gabbia, who told me all about the club and the dressing room. He spoke very highly of it. As soon as I arrived I felt like I was joining a big family, where everyone works in the same direction to help us perform at our best and feel good."

How did you handle Milan's long-standing interest?

"I think in a player’s career, especially when you’re young, it’s normal to be linked to big clubs if you perform well. It had already happened when I was at Empoli. These are rumors that are nice to hear but shouldn’t distract you. When it became reality, it felt completely different—I couldn’t believe it at first. Those who know me know I didn’t hesitate for a second to choose Milan, and I’ll do everything to repay that trust both on and off the pitch."

Were you curious to meet any new teammates?

"Probably Leao the most. You see him as an opponent and it’s obvious he has something extra, then you meet him and realize that many rumors about him aren’t true: he’s very calm and a really nice guy."

Did you support Milan as a kid?

"I expected this question. Milan is one of the most decorated clubs in the world—since I was little I’ve always followed them and admired their players. I can’t say I didn’t know their players: I know almost everyone who has been part of this big family. Now I’m part of it too and I know how important this club is. I’ll give it my all."

Did you talk with Allegri about your role?

"We haven’t really discussed it in detail yet, but the position I’m most comfortable in is as a holding midfielder in a three-man midfield. But if the coach asks me to play full-back, then I’ll do it."

Isn’t the number 4 a bit heavy? Without comparing yourself, how do you make up for Reijnders's 10 goals?

"It’s definitely a big number, especially at a club like this. Many champions have worn it. For me, it’s a number that reflects who I am, how I behave, and my way of being. It’s demanding, but I’ll do my best to prove I deserve it—it means a lot to me. As for the goals… what can I say? (laughs) Tijjani and I have very different qualities. He had an outstanding season, he’s considered one of the best midfielders in the world, but I’m myself and I don’t like comparisons. Maybe I won’t score 10 goals, but I’m here to give my all for the team."

How important can Milan be for your career with the national team?

"I think Milan will be crucial for my time with the Azzurri. It’s the right place to grow and improve. I know there will be challenges: taking such a big step means training with top players and the competition level rises. It’s part of this job. I’ve already spoken with coach Gattuso, we had a quick chat on the phone—it made me really happy."

Can you play without a holding midfielder? Are you ready?

"So far, I’ve always played there, but I’ve also done other roles. I prefer having possession, touching the ball a lot. Compared to when I was at Empoli, I think I improved a lot in the defensive phase at Torino. I still need to learn more about defending and I think Allegri will help me a lot—he’s a master at that."

You’ll be playing with Modric...

"If you’d told me a few years ago I would’ve said ‘impossible’. I’ll be alongside one of the best midfielders in the world—it’ll be crucial to learn so much from him, both on and off the pitch. I’ll have to be like a sponge and absorb everything that can help my career—from him and the other teammates too."

About playing under pressure:

"It’s something that suits me quite well. I like keeping the ball, but not too much. As a holding midfielder, you have to take fewer touches and, above all, see the play before it happens, like the Director told me yesterday. You might be slow on your feet, but if your mind is quick, you can make up for it."

Did you get any special calls? What did Torino leave you with?

"So many people called me, this is the biggest step of my career. All people I care about, who love me and wanted to be close to me. At Torino, right from the start I felt something really special: the love from all the fans for the player. That love stayed with me these three years. It’s a club with a big history—if I’m here today, it’s also thanks to them. I can only be grateful and hold beautiful memories of Torino."

Is there anything about Allegri that struck you?

"What I felt, from both the coach and the players, was not only great enthusiasm but also really intense and competitive training from the start. That’s something fundamental within a team. There are good signs for the season. We’ll do everything to give our best."
