Sei qui al Milan da una settimana e sono successe tante cose. C'è qualcosa di questa settimana che ti ha emozionato?

"Una settimana fantastica con due vittorie, con un gol segnato a San Siro. Me l'aspettavo, ma il Milan è un club immenso. Da fuori si vede. Quando ci sei dentro capisci perché è uno dei più grandi club d'Europa".

Ai tifosi piace sognare, per molti ricordi Kaká...

"È il mio giocatore preferito di sempre. Non ci ho mai parlato sul fatto che sono venuto qua, ma ci ho parlato in passato. L'ho incontrato negli USA, ho fatto un'intervista con lui. È un idolo, non mi posso paragonare a lui ma magari potessi fare quello che ha fatto al Milan quello che ha fatto lui".

Come la vedi la situazione dell'equilibrio quando sarete voi quattro (Joao Felix, Pulisic, Leao, Gimenez, ndr) tutti insieme in campo? È sostenibile?

"Sì, ovvio che sì. Non so se è normale oppure no ma di solito le persone vedono che la difesa è molto importante. Ma non vuol dire che con 4 attaccanti non ci sia difesa. Siamo attaccanti, ma quando c'è da difendere ci siamo anche noi a fare il nostro lavoro. Aiutiamo in difesa, cerchiamo l'equilibrio come avete visto nel secondo tempo contro l'Empoli. Abbiamo difeso bene e abbiamo attaccato bene, è possibile fare entrambe le cose".

Come ti ha spiegato il progetto Milan mister Conceiçao?

"Conoscevo già il mister, ci ho giocato anche contro. Quando ho lasciato il Portogallo ho continuato a seguirlo. Gli ho detto che mi sarebbe piaciuto giocare nel mio ruolo, non ho chiesto di giocare tanto. E questo mi ha convinto a venire al Milan. Lo conoscevo da prima, so come giocano le sue squadre: mi piace molto ed è anche per questo che sono qua".

Sei il giocatore portoghese più pagato della storia ma hai un po' deluso le aspettative. Cosa non è andato? Ti piacerebbe rimanere al Milan anche oltre il prestito?

"Per adesso sono in prestito, fino a giugno. Vediamo come va. Per il momento mi sta piacendo molto tutto: il club, le persone, le infrastrutture. Sono stato accolto molto bene, sia io e sia la mia famiglia. Mi sento bene qua, sappiamo però che nel calcio le cose possono cambiare velocemente. Ma se ci fosse la possibilità di rimanere al Milan mi piacerebbe. In ogni club avevo l'aspettativa di giocare al meglio, se poi le cose non vanno è importante essere perseveranti".

In Serie A non ci sono tanti trequartisti come te... Come ti vedi in questo ruolo?

"Farò tutto quello che mi chiederà di fare il mister, in ogni momento e in ogni ruolo: farò del mio meglio e sarò a disposizione del mister e della squadra".

Come ti ha accolto Leao? Ti ha detto qualcosa per convincerti?

"Devo dire che è stato il primo a telefonarmi per chiedermi se fosse vero che sarei venuto. Mi chiedeva se firmavo oppure no, appena l'ho fatto mi ha telefonato ed era molto contento. Abbiamo un buon rapporto, abbiamo già una buona intesa in campo. Mi piace averlo di fianco".

Su Rui Costa:

"Certo che conosco Rui Costa. Quando giocavo al Benfica lui lavora lì, ora è il presidente. Ho parlato molto con lui quando ero al Benfica, ma negli ultimi anni non ci siamo sentiti molto. Non mi ricordo di quando giocava al Milan, quello che so l'ho visto su YouTube. Ma so che è un idolo qui, come Kaká ha fatto la storia".

C'era anche l'Inter su di te?

"Sì, il mio agente me ne ha parlato. Mi ha detto che l'Inter era interessata. Ma avevo già iniziato a trattare col Milan e avevo già in mente di venire al Milan. Ho detto che sarebbe stato impossibile, avevo già deciso di venire qua".

San Siro si è innamorato subito di te...

"Ho amato subito l'atmosfera di San Siro. Ho vissuto questo ambiente al Benfica e all'Atletico Madrid, ma devo dire che qua l'atmosfera era diversa. Non mi aspettavo un'accoglienza del genere, si toccava con mano l'affetto dei tifosi. Atmosfera incredibile, spero continui così".

La scelta del numero 79...

"La verità è che è un numero a cui sono molto legato, il mio primo numero da professionista. È un numero speciale, sarà sempre presente nella mia carriera. Mi è sempre piaciuto. 79, 14, 11, 7... Non sono i numeri a incidere, però questo è speciale".

Quale obiettivo ti poni in questi sei mesi?

"Il mio obiettivo è aiutare il club, la squadra e vincere titoli. La carriera di un giocatore è fatto di questo: titoli. L'importante è vincere e questo è il mio obiettivo. Fin quando resterò qua il mio obiettivo è vincere titoli e nient'altro".

Che rapporto hai con i calci piazzati? Batti punizioni, rigori, angoli?

"Sì. Da quando sono qui ho fatto due allenamenti in campo, gli altri solo di recupero. Non abbiamo lavorato su questo. Ma quando sarà necessario sono pronto a battere corner e punizioni".

Cosa ne pensi del calcio italiano dopo queste due partite?

"È presto per dirlo. C'è la marcatura a uomo, questo per me è positivo perché con i movimenti corretti si riesce a trovare spazio. Ho visto che le squadre sono aggressive, lo sapevo. Ci sono molti duelli".

Rui Costa ha 55 assist al Milan. Ti vedi come assistman o sei uno che fa più gol?

"Non ci sono dubbi, preferisco segnare. Se devo entrare nella storia del Milan preferirei per i gol e non per gli assist".

Joao Felix's Press Conference Begins

You've been at Milan for a week now, and a lot has happened. Was there anything this week that really moved you?

"It's been a fantastic week with two wins and a goal at San Siro. I expected it, but Milan is an immense club. You can see it from the outside, but when you're inside, you truly understand why it's one of the biggest clubs in Europe."

Fans love to dream, and for many, you remind them of Kaká...

"He’s my favorite player of all time. I never spoke to him about coming here, but we have talked in the past. I met him in the USA, and we did an interview together. He’s an idol—I can't compare myself to him, but I would love to achieve at Milan even a fraction of what he did."

How do you see the balance when all four of you (Joao Felix, Pulisic, Leao, Gimenez, ed.) are on the pitch together? Is it sustainable?

"Yes, of course. I don’t know if it's normal or not, but people usually focus a lot on defense. But that doesn’t mean that having four attackers means no defense. We are forwards, but when we need to defend, we do our job as well. We help in defense and try to maintain balance, as you saw in the second half against Empoli. We defended well and attacked well—it’s possible to do both."

How did Coach Conceição explain Milan's project to you?

"I already knew the coach, I even played against him. When I left Portugal, I continued to follow him. I told him that I would like to play in my natural role—I didn't ask to play a lot, just to play in my position. That convinced me to come to Milan. I already knew his style, I like how his teams play, and that was another reason why I chose to come here."

You are the most expensive Portuguese player in history, but you've somewhat fallen short of expectations. What went wrong? Would you like to stay at Milan beyond this loan?

"For now, I’m on loan until June. We’ll see how things go. At the moment, I’m really enjoying everything—the club, the people, the facilities. Both my family and I have been welcomed very well. I feel good here, but we all know that in football, things can change quickly. If there were an opportunity to stay at Milan, I would love to. In every club, I always had the expectation of playing at my best, and if things don’t go as planned, it’s important to stay persistent."

In Serie A, there aren’t many playmakers like you. How do you see yourself in this role?

"I’ll do whatever the coach asks of me, in any moment and any position. I’ll give my best and be at the service of the coach and the team."

How did Leao welcome you? Did he say anything to convince you?

"He was actually the first to call me to ask if it was true that I was coming. He kept asking if I was signing or not. As soon as I did, he called me, and he was very happy. We have a good relationship and already a good understanding on the pitch. I enjoy playing alongside him."

On Rui Costa:

"Of course, I know Rui Costa. When I played at Benfica, he was working there—now he’s the president. I spoke to him a lot when I was at Benfica, but we haven’t talked much in recent years. I don’t remember when he played for Milan, but I’ve seen videos on YouTube. I know he’s an idol here, just like Kaká, and he made history."

Was Inter also interested in you?

"Yes, my agent told me that Inter was interested. But I had already started talking with Milan and had already made up my mind. I told him it would be impossible—I had already decided to come here."

San Siro immediately fell in love with you...

"I immediately loved the atmosphere at San Siro. I’ve experienced great atmospheres at Benfica and Atlético Madrid, but I have to say, this was different. I didn’t expect such a warm welcome—you could feel the fans’ affection. It was incredible, and I hope it continues."

Your choice of number 79...

"The truth is, it’s a number I’m very attached to—it was my first number as a professional. It’s a special number that will always be part of my career. I've always liked it. 79, 14, 11, 7... Numbers don’t define a player, but this one is special to me."

What is your goal for these six months?

"My goal is to help the club, the team, and to win trophies. A player’s career is built on titles. Winning is what matters, and that’s my goal. As long as I’m here, my objective is to win trophies—nothing else."

How do you feel about set pieces? Do you take free kicks, penalties, corners?

"Yes. Since I arrived, I’ve only had two training sessions on the pitch—the rest have been recovery sessions. So, we haven’t worked on that yet. But when the time comes, I’m ready to take corners and free kicks."

What do you think about Italian football after these two matches?

"It’s too early to say. There’s a lot of man-marking, which is good for me because with the right movements, you can create space. The teams are aggressive—I already knew that. There are a lot of physical duels."

Rui Costa had 55 assists for Milan. Do you see yourself more as a playmaker or a goalscorer?

"No doubt about it—I prefer scoring. If I’m going to make history at Milan, I’d rather do it for my goals than my assists."
