Ecco la conferenza di presentazione di mister Massimiliano Allegri

"Buongiorno a tutti e bentrovati. Mi fa piacere essere qui davanti a voi. Iniziamo oggi questa avventura dove cercheremo di toglierci delle grandi soddisfazioni".

Un mese e mezzo di Milan, hai respirato quella compattezza che tradizionalmente sono le atmosfere nelle quali ti trovi meglio:

"Da quando sono arrivato abbiamo cominciato a lavorare insieme con il Direttore e tutti le componenti della società: per ottenere risultati bisogna essere un blocco unico, con un'unica direzione verso quale andare, con responsabilità che dobbiamo avere verso un club importante come il Milan. Condividiamo quotidianamente le dinamiche, con il direttore e gli altri membri. Inizia questa fantastica avventura, sono molto contento ed entusiasta. Sono tornato di nuovo al Milan dove ho trovato tante persone che avevo lasciato e tante persone nuove, che per me sono uno stimolo importante: conoscere persone nuove ti crea un'attenzione completamente diversa".

L'obiettivo è tornare a vincere?

"La 5 è un numero fortunato per me, è la data in cui è nata mia figlia, che mi ha reso nonno di due nipotini. Non è che in questi 15 anni ho vinto più del Milan. Ho avuto la fortuna di lavorare 4 anni al Milan con Berlusconi e Galliani, dove ho avuto la possibilità di vincere grazie alla società e ai giocatori. Poi sono andato alla Juventus, e colgo l'occasione per ringraziarli per gli 8 anni che ho vissuto lì dentro: le persone che mi hanno sostenuto ed il presidente Agnelli con cui sono legato. Detto questo, cerco di mettere i giocatori nelle condizioni per far sì che ci possano regalare prestazioni importanti. La società deve essere un blocco unico, deve essere di sostegno, e sono sicuro che lo sarà. La rosa del Milan è un ottima rosa, la società sta monitorando tutte le situazioni e l'importante è arrivare al 31 agosto nelle migliori condizioni. I primi sei mesi sono importanti per creare le migliori condizioni per arrivare a marzo, dove si decidono le stagioni".

A fine stagione sarai contento se... ?

"Intanto cominciamo ad allenarci. Io credo che bisogna iniziare la stagione con grande entusiasmo, passione, lavoro, senso di responsabilità per creare i presupposti per essere a marzo nelle migliori condizioni per poter raggiungere gli obiettivi a fine stagione. Il primo obiettivo è che il Milan torni a giocare la Champions. A marzo bisogna essere in quelle posizioni".

Che spiegazioni si è dato per la passata stagione?

"Il calcio è difficile. C'è un esempio banale: guardavo la Serie B, lo Spezia ha giocato i playoff con un giocatore differente rispetto alla squadra che l'anno prima ha giocato i playout. Non sta a me dire cosa non è andato l'anno scorso, ho guardato le partite e mi sono divertito tanto: oggi inizia una nuova stagione e bisogna concentrarci su questo. il Milan l'anno scorso ha vinto un trofeo, è arrivato in finale di Coppa Italia, ha giocato ottime partite singole. Devo prendere il buono dell'anno scorso: il valore della squadra c'è. Sta a me farli rendere al meglio: bisognerà lavorare tutti insieme, giocatori, società e chi è a Milanello, per arrivare al massimo dei risultati. Al Milan bisogna sempre avere l'ambizione di ottenere il massimo e mai accontentarsi, avendo grande dedizione nel lavoro. Soprattutto in campionato, dove non è una partita secca, bisogna cercare di viaggiare ad una velocità di crociera. Per ottenere dei risultati bisogna ottenere tot punti, fare gol e prenderne meno: la differenza reti nel campionato italiano ha sempre fatto la differenza, me l'hanno insegnato fin da bambino".

Quanto sarà di corto muso il tuo Milan? Cosa le ha chiesto la società?

"Non c'entra il corto muso. L'obiettivo di tutti è di lavorare bene, partire bene e riportare il Milan in Champions. È l'obiettivo che bisogna avere tutti in testa, possiamo arrivarci solo col lavoro quotidiano di ogni singolo, e il primo sono io. Sono molto fiducioso".

Perché il Milan?

"Innanzitutto perché il Milan è un Club a cui sono molto affezionato. Quando mi è arrivata la telefonata di Tare e Furlani li ho incontrati subito: ero molto entusiasta ed in un'ora abbiamo deciso che avremo cominciato questa avventura insieme. Sono molto contento di questa scelta che ho fatto".

Da che certezze riparte il suo Milan? Vlahovic interessa?

"Per quanto riguarda il mercato il direttore Tare, insieme alla società, monitora il mercato. Condividiamo tutti i giorni le opportunità che ci sono. Le uscite sono state condivise con la società. Oggi ne ho 25 di movimento e sono molto contento. Le cose vanno fatte piano e piano e fatte bene: il 17 agosto c'è la prima partita di Coppa Italia. Una partita da dentro o fuori che ci servirà a prepararci al campionato".

L'anno scorso il Napoli ha vinto il campionato senza l'impegno delle coppe europee. Secondo le ci sono le possibilità per rifare un percorso del genere?

"Posso solo dire che quando si lavora al Milan bisogna avere tutti l'ambizione di avere il massimo dei risultati: bisogna cominciare a lavorare con la convinzione di ottenere il massimo dei risultati. Se a marzo saremo a bravi ad essere nelle posizione importanti allora giocheremo per cose importanti. Ora non serve a niente dire che vinceremo il campionato: bisogna essere responsabile e concreti, ottenendo risultati attraverso passione, lavoro e la responsabilità che ognuno di noi all'interno di questo club deve avere".

Si va col 4-3-3?

"Dove?".

A giocare:

"Intanto iniziamo a metterne 10, poi vediamo (ride, ndr)".

Maignan sarà il capitano?

"Stamattina l'ho visto, sono molto contento che ha fatto questa scelta di rimanere. È il capitano della squadra, un giocatore internazionale, uno dei migliori al mondo. Brava la società che l'ha convinto a rimanere. Leao sono sicuro che farà una grande stagione".

Modric dove va collocato?

"Aspettiamo che arrivi, arriverà in agosto. È un giocatore importante e straordinario. Abbiamo Ricci, Modric, Loftus-Cheek che è un giocatore molto importante che due anni fa ha fatto 12 gol, abbiamo Fofana, Bondo, Musah. Abbiamo degli ottimi giocatori. A centrocampo sicuramente giocheremo con i 3, a seconda delle caratteristiche dei singoli ci metteremo in campo e soprattutto cercherò di farli rendere il meglio possibile".

La figura di Tare, che prima non c'era, è fondamentale?

"Per quanto riguarda quello che è successo fino ad un mese fa non posso dirlo e non lo so. Ho trovato una società con chiarezza nei ruoli che è la cosa più importante: è importante che tutti andiamo in un'unica direzione. Questo blocco che deve esserci dalla proprietà fino ai magazzinieri dovrà essere un blocco unico per mettere i calciatori nelle condizioni migliori di fare quello che devono fare, cioè farci vincere le partite".

Ha incontrato la proprietà? Che messaggio manda ai tifosi che sono delusi?

"L'ho incontrata. È stato un pranzo piacevole, sono stato molto contento. Per quanto riguarda i tifosi la cosa più importante che dobbiamo fare è lavorare bene, giorno dopo giorno: l'unica cosa per riconquistare il rispetto dei tifosi è quello di lavorare bene, con responsabilità e professionalità. E cercare di ottenere risultati, che è la cosa che conta di più nel calcio. I tifosi dovranno darci una mano, avremo bisogno di loro assolutamente".

Una volta lei ha detto "I campionati si vincono nelle partite dove si gioca male", per questo cerca un attaccante in più? Che rapporto ha con Vlahovic?

"È un ragazzo straordinario, era arrivato molto giovane dalla Fiorentina. Non sono amante delle statische, ma ci sono numeri dai quale non si può scappare. Negli ultimi 20 anni c'è stato un solo campionato dove non ha vinto la miglior difesa, l'anno di Sarri alla Juve che ha preso 43 gol. Una grande squadra fa dai 60 agli 80 gol, se ne prendi 40 non puoi entrare tra le prime 4".

Da dove arrivano le sue convinzioni su Leao?

"Ci credo, sono convinto. Va verso l'età della maturazione. Di solito un giocatore gli anni più importanti li fa dai 26 ai 30. Penso che sia più responsabile, l'ho incotrato stamane e ci ho parlato. Credo ci siano tutti i presupposti per fare bene".

Come è cambiato Allegri in questi anni?

"Sono cambiato tanto, è normale che sia così. I giovani non sono più o meno bravi degli anziani, nella vita è una questione di esperienza. Fra un mese faccio 58 anni, rispetto a quando ho iniziato all'Aglianese sono completamente diverso. Con i 4 anni di Milan e gli 8 di Juventus sono stato molto fortunato, mi hanno insegnato molto. Queste due società mi hanno ingigantito il bagaglio di esperienza che mi porto dietro e che comunque dovrò ancora interpretare: non si finisce mai di imparare, c'è sempre la possibilità di migliorare. Non esiste il mantenimento: o si migliora o si peggiora. Quando non si migliora più vuol dire che si peggiora".

La parola scudetto deve diventare un obbligo, un ossessione di questa squadra?

"Puntare allo scudetto è un proclamo che serve più a voi per scrivere. Essendo in un grande club come il Milan tutti devono avere l'ambizione di ottenere il massimo, poi parleranno i giocatori. Il campionato non mente, ogni giorno devi essere lì a lavorare e ogni domenica devi essere lì a lottare per i tre punti. Ma di questo se ne può parlare solamente a marzo. Fino a marzo bisogna costruire per i mesi finali".

Che Ibra ha ritrovato? Ha provato a parlare con Theo per convincerlo a rimanere?

"Ibra non l'ho ancora visto. Appena c'è stata l'ufficialità ci siamo contattati, siamo conteti. È stato un giocatore straordinario, ora ha iniziato una carriera da dirigente. COme ha datto Furlani è un consulente della proprietà, deve essere un esempio per tutti i giocatori con la sua mentalità. Theo ha fatto una scelta diversa, è un grandissimo giocatore e gli auguro le migliori fortune".

Quanto bisognerà lavorare sulla testa della squadra?

"Quello che è stato l'anno scorso non posso giudicarlo. Al più presto bisogna diventare una squadra, prima diventiamo squadra e prima riusciamo a fare risultati. Ho visto ragazzi molto disponibili e molto attenti. Ora vediamo oggi quando si inizia con la palla, che è la cosa più difficile. Sono molto fiducioso, quello che è successo negli anni precedenti ormai è stato fatto: io devo prendere il meglio del recente passato, non c'è bisogno di una rivoluzione. C'è bisogno di lavorare con ordine e responsabilità. Poi Tare da qui al 31 agosto potrà cogliere le opportunità che servono alla squadra".

Quali consigli ha dato a Thiago Silva? Che squadre teme per l'anno prossimo?

"Thiago Silva mi ha chiamato, ogni tanto ci sentiamo. Pensavo facesse il dirigente... (ride, ndr). Le squadre che sono sempre al vertice sono il Napoli, che è la favorita, l'Inter, la Juventus, l'Atalanta, la Roma, la Lazio. Arrivare tra le prime quattro non è facile, per questo è importante lavorare bene".

Che profili si aspetta come terzini? Ha fiducia nei centrali attuali?

"Di mercato non parlo perché c'è il direttore, ci pensa lui. Abbiamo Jimenez che può fare il terzino, Bartesaghi è un giovane interessante. Il direttore ha tempo e modo per sistemare le cose. I centrali sono 4 centrali con caratteristiche diverse, hanno margini di miglioramento. Pavlovic ha margini, Tomori e Thiaw lo stesso. Gabbia è un ragazzo esemplare per comportamento e modi, sono contento".

Che offerte aveva? E un pensiero sulla Juventus:

"La Juventus posso solo che ringraziarla per l'opportunità che mi ha dato. Ringrazio tutte le persone che mi hanno sostenuto nel lavoro quotidiano. Le altre offerte... L'offerta più importante per me era il Milan, sono entusiasta e contento di essere qui: il Milan ha un fascino meraviglioso".

Che gioco ha in mente? C'è qualcuno con cui fare i suoi giochini con le punizioni come faceva con Vlahovic?

"Fortunatamente per loro non ce la faccio più a tirare in porta. Detto questo, quando abbiamo la palla dobbiamo attaccare bene e fare gol, quando non ce l'abbiamo dobbiamo difendere bene e non prendere gol. Ci sono due fasi: quando ce l'hai devi fare gol, quando non ce l'hai non devi prendere gol".

Lei porta subito allegria, quanto è importante questo aspetto?

"La cosa che dobbiamo fare è divertirci, con grinta, vincendo. È questo il mix da fare. Facciamo un lavoro meraviglioso, ma come tutti i lavori vanno fatti con grande passione, e questo ti porta a buttare il cuore oltre l'ostacolo. Facciamo un lavoro meraviglioso e quando entriamo a Milanello dobbiamo farlo con grande entusiasmo, ricordandoci quanto siamo fortunati".

Leao è uno che va imbrigliato tatticamente oppore paraocchi e via al galoppo?

"Paraocchi no perché si vede solo da una parte. Deve avere una visione a 360°. Leao ha caratteristiche straordinarie, così come Loftus per altre, Ricci per altre, Tomori per altre, Gimenez per altre... Devo metterli nelle condizioni per fare il meglio possibile".

Cosa è mancato al Milan l'anno scorso?

"Non so cosa è mancato al Milan lo scorso anno perché non c'ero, parlare da fuori è facile e diventano chiacchiere da bar. Ora inizia una nuova stagione con nuovi obiettivi, a partire dalla Coppa Italia il 17 agosto. Per dare continuità bisogna lavorare quotidianamente giorno dopo giorno, molto duramente. Solo così riesci a dare continuità in campionato. La partita secca, singola, è una cosa diversa dal percorso in campionato. Dovremo essere bravi a capire questa cosa. Bisogna farlo velocemente, la squadra e chi lavora con me, dovrà capirlo. Sono tutti importanti, alla fine dell'anno bisogna raggiungere gli obiettivi".

Come si arriva in finale di Champions giocando male? Non sei stanco di questa nomea di uno che gioca male?

"Non sono stanco, è un divertimento, è il gioco delle parti, mi diverto molto e ci gioco sopra. L'importante è il risultato. Se vinci sei un bravo ragazzo, se perdi... Io faccio sempre un esempio. Quando Ronaldo fece gol in rovesciata a Torino contro di noi nessuno si ricorda l'azione ma il gol. Il calcio è arte, i giocatori ce l'hanno nei piedi e nella testa. È un gioco di squadra e sono d'accordo, ma se 1 la passa al 2, la 2 la passa al 3 e il 3 sbaglia allora il gioco di squadra è già finito... Per questo parlo di tecnica".

“Good morning everyone and welcome. I'm happy to be here in front of you. Today we begin this journey in which we’ll try to achieve great satisfaction.”

You've had a month and a half at Milan—have you sensed that compactness you usually thrive in?

“Since I arrived, we’ve started working together with the Director and all areas of the club. To achieve results, we must be a united front, moving in the same direction, with the sense of responsibility we owe a club as important as Milan. We share the dynamics daily with the Director and other staff. This is a fantastic new adventure—I’m very happy and excited. I’ve returned to Milan, where I’ve found many people I left behind and many new ones too, and that’s a real stimulus for me. Meeting new people gives you a whole different kind of focus.”

Is the objective to start winning again?

“The number 5 is lucky for me—it’s the date my daughter was born, who has made me a grandfather of two. It’s not like I’ve won more than Milan in these 15 years. I had the good fortune to work four years at Milan with Berlusconi and Galliani, where I won thanks to the club and the players. Then I went to Juventus—and I’d like to thank them for the eight years I spent there, the people who supported me, and President Agnelli with whom I’m very close. That said, I try to put the players in the best conditions to give us important performances. The club has to be united and supportive, and I’m sure it will be. Milan’s squad is a great one. The club is monitoring every situation, and what matters is arriving on August 31 in the best condition. The first six months are essential to build the foundations so that come March, we’re ready for the decisive stage of the season.”

At the end of the season, when will you be satisfied?

“For now, let’s start training. You need to begin with enthusiasm, passion, work, and a sense of responsibility to create the conditions to achieve your objectives by season’s end. The first goal is for Milan to return to playing in the Champions League. By March, we need to be in those positions.”

What explanation do you have for last season?

“Football is tough. Here's a simple example: in Serie B, Spezia played the playoffs with a different squad than the one that fought relegation the year before. It's not my place to say what went wrong last year—I watched the games and really enjoyed them. Today, a new season begins, and that’s our focus. Milan won a trophy last year, reached the Coppa Italia final, and played some great individual matches. I need to take the positives from last year—there is quality in the team. It’s my job to get the best out of them. We all need to work together—players, club, and everyone at Milanello—to achieve maximum results. At Milan, we must always aim for the top and never settle, with total dedication. Especially in the league, where consistency matters—you need to cruise at the right pace. To get results, you need a certain number of points, score goals, and concede fewer: goal difference has always mattered in Serie A. I’ve known that since I was a kid.”

Will this Milan be “short-nosed” like your famous phrase? What has the club asked of you?

“It’s not about ‘short-nosed wins.’ Everyone’s goal is to work well, start well, and bring Milan back to the Champions League. That’s the common target and we can only get there through daily work—starting with me. I’m very confident.”

Why Milan?

“First of all, because I’m deeply attached to the club. When I got the call from Tare and Furlani, I met them immediately. I was excited, and in an hour, we decided to begin this journey together. I’m very happy with the choice.”

What are the certainties your Milan is starting from? Is Vlahovic a target?

“Regarding the market, Director Tare and the club are keeping track of it. We share opportunities every day. All exits have been discussed with the club. I have 25 players available right now and I’m very happy. Things have to be done gradually and properly. On August 17 we have the first Coppa Italia game—it’s a do-or-die match that will help us prepare for the league.”

Last year Napoli won the league without European competitions. Can Milan replicate that?

“At Milan, everyone must aim for the best possible results. You need to work with conviction. If in March we’re in a good position, then we’ll fight for big goals. But right now, saying we’ll win the league means nothing—we need to be responsible and concrete, and results must come through passion, work, and responsibility from everyone within the club.”

Will Milan play with a 4-3-3?

“Where?”

“Let’s start by fielding 10 players, then we’ll see! (laughs)”

Will Maignan be the captain?

“I saw him this morning. I’m very happy he chose to stay. He’s the captain, an international-level player, one of the best in the world. Credit to the club for convincing him to stay. I’m also sure Leão will have a great season.”

Where does Modric fit in?

“We’re waiting for him to arrive in August. He’s a fantastic player. We have Ricci, Modric, Loftus-Cheek—who scored 12 goals two years ago—Fofana, Bondo, Musah… we have excellent midfielders. We’ll play with three in midfield and adapt based on their individual traits, trying to bring out the best in each.”

Is Tare’s role crucial?

“I can’t comment on what happened before a month ago. I’ve found a club with clear roles—that’s essential. Everyone needs to move in the same direction. From ownership to the kitmen, we must be united to give players the best conditions to win.”

Have you met the ownership? What's your message to the fans?

“Yes, we had a pleasant lunch, I was very happy. As for the fans, we must work well every day. The only way to regain their respect is by being responsible, professional, and getting results—which is what matters most in football. We need the fans’ support and will absolutely rely on them.”

You once said “You win titles in the games where you play badly.” Is that why you want another striker? What’s your relationship with Vlahovic?

“He’s a fantastic guy. He arrived young from Fiorentina. I’m not a stat-lover, but some numbers can’t be ignored. In the last 20 years, only one team has won the league without being the best defense—Sarri’s Juventus, who conceded 43 goals. A great team scores 60–80 goals. If you concede 40, you can’t finish top four.”

Why are you so confident in Leão?

“I believe in him. He’s approaching the age of maturity. Players usually peak between 26–30. He’s more responsible now—I spoke with him this morning. Everything is in place for a great season.”

How has Allegri changed over the years?

“A lot. It’s natural. Young players aren’t better or worse than older ones—it’s about experience. I’ll be 58 soon, and I’m nothing like the guy who started at Aglianese. The 4 years at Milan and 8 at Juventus were a gift. They massively increased my experience, which I still need to apply. You never stop learning. There’s no such thing as standing still: you either improve or decline. If you stop improving, you’re getting worse.”

Should the word "Scudetto" become an obligation, an obsession?

“Talking about the title is something for the press. At Milan, ambition must be to aim for the top. But only the players can speak with their actions. The league doesn’t lie. You work daily and fight every Sunday for three points. But you can only talk about titles in March. Until then, we need to build.”

What Ibra have you found? Did you try to convince Theo to stay?

“I haven’t seen Ibra yet. As soon as it was official, we spoke—we’re happy. He was an extraordinary player. Now he starts a new career as a director. As Furlani said, he’s a consultant for the ownership. He must be an example for everyone with his mindset. Theo made a different choice—he’s a great player and I wish him the best.”

How much work needs to be done on the team’s mentality?

“I can’t judge last season. But the sooner we become a real team, the sooner we’ll get results. I’ve seen focused, willing players. Today we start with the ball—that’s the hardest part. I’m very confident. What happened before is done. I must take the best from the recent past. We don’t need a revolution—we need to work with order and responsibility. And Tare will seize the right opportunities by August 31.”

What advice did you give to Thiago Silva? Which teams are you wary of?

“Thiago called me—we talk from time to time. I thought he was becoming a director! (laughs) The usual teams: Napoli, Inter, Juventus, Atalanta, Roma, Lazio. Finishing in the top four is never easy, so we need to work well.”

What profiles are you looking for at full-back? Do you trust your current center-backs?

“I don’t talk about the market—that’s the Director’s job. We have Jimenez who can play full-back. Bartesaghi is an interesting young player. The Director has time to work on things. We have four center-backs with different traits and room for growth: Pavlovic, Tomori, Thiaw, and Gabbia—who’s a model professional. I’m pleased.”

What offers did you have? And a word on Juventus:

“I can only thank Juventus for the opportunity. I thank everyone who supported me day to day. As for other offers… the most important one was Milan. I’m excited and happy to be here—Milan has incredible appeal.”

What playing style do you envision? Will there be someone to take free kicks with like you did with Vlahovic?

“Luckily for them, I can’t shoot anymore. That said, when we have the ball, we need to attack and score. When we don’t, we need to defend and avoid conceding. It’s a two-phase game—when you have it, score. When you don’t, don’t concede.”

You bring cheerfulness—how important is that?

“We must have fun—with grit—and win. That’s the mix. We do a wonderful job, but like all jobs, it needs passion. That drives us to go beyond limits. We’re lucky to work at Milanello—we need to remember that and bring enthusiasm.”

Should Leão be tactically constrained or given blinders and set loose?

“Not blinders—then he’d only see one way. He needs 360° vision. Leão has extraordinary traits, just like Loftus, Ricci, Tomori, and Gimenez. I need to put them in the best conditions to shine.”

What did Milan lack last season?

“I don’t know—I wasn’t here. Talking from the outside is just bar talk. A new season begins with new goals, starting from the Coppa Italia on August 17. Consistency only comes through daily hard work. A one-off match is very different from a league journey. We must understand that quickly—me, the team, and my staff. Everyone is important. By season’s end, we must hit our goals.”

How do you reach a Champions League final playing “ugly”? Are you tired of that reputation?

“Not at all—I find it fun, it’s all part of the game. I enjoy it. What matters is the result. If you win, you're a good guy. If you lose... well. I always use this example: when Ronaldo scored that overhead kick in Turin, no one remembers the build-up—just the goal. Football is art. Players have it in their feet and minds. It’s a team game, yes, but if player 1 passes to 2, 2 passes to 3, and 3 messes up, the team play ends there. That’s why I focus on technique.”
