L'idea che avevi del Milan l'hai ritrovata ora?
“Le mie sensazioni su questo club sono incredibili. È un sogno che si realizza, non solo per me ma anche per la mia famiglia. Sono qui da poco, ma ho ricevuto un’accoglienza splendida da tutti. Mi sto integrando bene. È un onore essere qui”.

È stata una lunga trattativa per arrivare qui…
“Tutti sanno che la negoziazione è stata lunga, ma fin dai primi contatti con il Milan era chiaro che volessi venire qui. Sapevo che non sarebbe stato semplice perché ero un elemento importante per il Club Brugge e non mi avrebbero lasciato andare facilmente. Serviva pazienza. Tare mi ha sempre assicurato che avrebbe fatto di tutto per portarmi qui. Anche quando si sono interessati altri club, io volevo solo il Milan. Ora siamo tutti felici”.

Cosa ti ha colpito di Allegri?
“Sono qui da una settimana, ma non posso che parlare bene di Allegri e del suo staff. Ho subito percepito che è un allenatore vicino alla squadra. C’è una grande armonia nello spogliatoio. Poi tutti entriamo in campo per vincere”.

La difficoltà più grande sono le aspettative?
“L’unico punto in comune con De Ketelaere è che proveniamo dallo stesso club, ma siamo giocatori diversi. Sento un po’ la pressione, ma chi veste questa maglia sa cosa comporta. Lavorerò sodo per rendere orgogliosi i tifosi e ripagare la fiducia del club. Il mio obiettivo è diventare un elemento importante”.

Quando tifavi Milan chi era il tuo idolo?
“Il mio giocatore preferito del Milan era Pirlo. Ho un percorso simile al suo: ha iniziato come numero 10 e poi, qui, ha giocato da playmaker. Anch’io ho cominciato da trequartista e ora gioco più arretrato. È stato una grande ispirazione per me. Naturalmente siamo diversi, io porterò in campo il mio stile”.

Sei rimasto sorpreso dalla prestazione contro il Leeds? Qual è il tuo obiettivo stagionale?
“Ringrazio Allegri per le belle parole dopo la gara col Leeds. Non giocavo da due mesi, quindi ho faticato un po’ a ritrovare il ritmo, ma in campo mi sono sentito bene. Mi allenavo con la squadra solo da due giorni, ma volevo lasciare un’ottima impressione. Ho grandi margini di crescita. Gli obiettivi? Vincere il più possibile, questo club merita trofei. Darò sempre il massimo”.

Com’è giocare con Modric?
“In questo club sono passati giocatori fantastici e sono orgoglioso di vestire la loro stessa maglia. Modric ha tanta esperienza, da cui posso imparare ogni giorno. Voglio divertirmi giocando con lui e crescere al suo fianco”.

Stai immaginando la prima a San Siro?
“Da bambino sono venuto a vedere il Milan contro il Barcellona. Ho sempre sognato di fare il calciatore e sono cresciuto con queste due squadre. È difficile spiegare a parole cosa provo a essere qui”.

Quando hai saputo del Milan?
“Ho fatto una grande stagione con il Club Brugge e volevo finirla bene senza pensare alle voci di mercato. Dopo la fine, il mio agente mi ha detto che il Milan poteva essere un’opzione. Poi, mentre ero in vacanza, mi ha parlato dell’interesse del club e ho discusso con Tare del progetto. Ora il mio sogno è realtà”.

In che ruolo ti vedi meglio?
“Deciderà Allegri dove impiegarmi. A centrocampo ci sono molte rotazioni, quindi bisogna essere versatili. Posso giocare sia da numero 10 che da numero 6, sarà l’allenatore a scegliere”.

Ti senti un vincente? Il tuo amico Xhaka ti ha aiutato?
“Xhaka ha avuto una carriera straordinaria ed è ancora un grande giocatore. Ho imparato tanto da lui, abbiamo la stessa grinta e la stessa passione. In campo vogliamo sempre vincere. Voglio trasmettere il mio fuoco alla squadra: spesso vince chi lo desidera di più”.

Cosa pensi del derby con l’Inter? Ti aveva cercato anche l’Inter?
“Ho sempre voluto il Milan. Appena ho saputo dell’interesse non ho avuto dubbi. Anche se altre squadre italiane si fossero fatte avanti, avrei scelto comunque il Milan. So quanto il derby sia importante per i tifosi, daremo tutto per battere l’Inter”.

Come ti aspetti il calcio italiano?
“È un livello diverso dal Belgio, molto più fisico. Ma anche lì il calcio sta crescendo. Giocare nel Milan e in Serie A è sempre stato il mio sogno”.

C’è qualche compagno che ti ha colpito particolarmente?
“La cosa che mi ha colpito di più è l’armonia tra squadra, allenatore e staff. La prima volta che ho visto Modric accanto a me è stato incredibile: fa piccoli gesti che ti semplificano il gioco”.

Che impatto ha avuto Ibrahimovic?
“È stata una trattativa positiva con il Milan. Sono stato seguito bene da Tare, poi ho parlato anche con Ibrahimovic che mi ha presentato il club. Durante le settimane di negoziazione, Tare mi ha trasmesso fiducia che sarei arrivato qui. Con persone così, dai sempre qualcosa in più per riuscirci. Ringrazio tutti coloro che hanno lavorato per chiudere questa operazione, in particolare Tare. Siamo qui per iniziare una nuova era”.

Per te è più importante attaccare o difendere?
“Aiuterò la squadra in entrambe le fasi. Voglio fare assist e difendere con la mia grinta. Prima di tutto bisogna non subire gol, poi davanti abbiamo qualità per segnare. Voglio dare il mio contributo ovunque serva”.

Che foto vorresti scattare a fine stagione?
“La cosa più importante è avere successo con il club. A livello personale, stare bene e dare il mio contributo. Voglio vincere il più possibile”.

Vuoi segnare di più e fare più assist?
“Ogni calciatore ama gol e assist. Io aiuterò la squadra in entrambe le fasi, poi penserò alle statistiche. Non importa chi segna, l’importante è vincere”.

Che ambizione hai trovato al Milan?
“Sono molto alte. L’obiettivo è vincere le partite e, vincendo le partite, arrivano anche i trofei”.

"Everyone knows the negotiation was long, but from the first contacts with Milan, it was clear I wanted to come here. Even when other clubs came in, I only wanted Milan. Now we are all happy."

"What struck you about Allegri?"
"I've been here for a week, but I can only speak positively about Allegri and his staff. From the start, I understood he's a coach close to the team. There's great harmony in the locker room. Then we all go on the pitch to win."

"Is the biggest challenge the expectations?"
"The only thing I have in common with De Ketelaere is that we came from the same club, but we are different players. I feel a bit of pressure, but whoever wears this shirt knows what it means. I will work hard to make the fans proud and repay the club’s trust. My aim is to become an important player."

"When you supported Milan, who was your idol?"
"My favorite Milan player was Pirlo. My career path is similar to his: he started as a number 10 and then, here, played as a playmaker. I also started as an attacking midfielder and now play deeper. He was a great inspiration to me. Of course, we are different, and I will bring my own style."

"Were you surprised by your performance against Leeds? What's your seasonal goal?"
"I thank Allegri for his kind words after the match against Leeds. I hadn’t played for two months, so I struggled a bit to find my rhythm, but I felt good on the pitch. I had only been training with the team for two days, but I wanted to make a great impression. I have big room for improvement. The goals? Win as much as possible, this club deserves trophies. I will always give my best."

"What's it like playing with Modric?"
"This club has had fantastic players, and I'm proud to wear the same shirt. Modric has so much experience, which can help me every day. I want to enjoy playing with him and grow alongside him."

"Are you imagining your debut at San Siro?"
"As a kid, I came to watch Milan play against Barcelona. I’ve always dreamed of being a footballer and grew up with these two teams. It’s hard to put into words what I feel being here."

"When did you hear about Milan's interest?"
"I had a great season with Club Brugge and wanted to finish it well without thinking about transfer rumors. After the season ended, my agent told me Milan could be an option. Then, while on vacation, he told me about the club's interest, and I spoke with Tare about the project. Now my dream has come true."

"Which position suits you best?"
"Allegri will decide where to play me. In midfield, there are many rotations, so you need to cover multiple roles. I can play as a number 10 or a number 6; the coach will choose."

"Do you see yourself as a winner? Did your friend Xhaka help you?"
"Xhaka has had an amazing career and is still a great player. I learned a lot from him; we share the same grit and passion. On the pitch, we always want to win. I want to bring my fire to the team; often the team that wants it more wins."

"What do you think about the derby with Inter? Did Inter ever approach you?"
"I always wanted Milan. As soon as I learned about their interest, I had no doubts. Even if other Italian teams had been interested, I would have still chosen Milan. I know how important the derby is for the fans, and we will give everything to beat Inter."

"What do you expect from Italian football?"
"It's a different level from Belgium, much more physical. But football in Belgium is also growing. Playing for Milan and in Serie A has always been my dream."

"Has any teammate impressed you in particular?"
"What struck me most is the harmony between the team, coach, and staff. The first time I saw Modric next to me was incredible; he makes small gestures that make your game easier."

"What impact did Ibrahimovic have?"
"It was a positive negotiation with Milan. I was well treated by Tare, then I also spoke with Ibrahimovic, who introduced me to the club. During the weeks of talks, Tare gave me confidence that I would get here. With people like that, you push yourself harder to make it happen. I thank everyone who worked to complete this deal, especially Tare. We are here to start a new era."

"Is it more important for you to attack or defend?"
"I will help the team in both phases. I want to provide assists and defend with my passion. The first thing is not to concede goals, then up front we have the quality to score. I want to help in every area."

"What picture would you like to take at the end of the season?"
"The most important thing is to succeed with the club. Personally, to feel good and give my contribution. I want to win as much as possible."

"Do you want to score and assist more?"
"Every player loves goals and assists. I will help the team in both phases, then think about stats. It doesn’t matter who scores, the important thing is winning."

"What ambition did you find at Milan?"
"They are very high. The goal is to win matches, and when you win matches, you also win trophies."
