Ecco le dichiarazioni di De Winter durante la conferenza stampa di presentazione:

Tra Belgio e Milan, possiamo definirla un’estate particolare?
“Si. Ho firmato per il Milan e ho giocato per il mio paese. Speciale si”.

San Siro può diventare il tuo palcoscenico dopo averlo vissuto da avversario?
“Sisi. Fino ad adesso penso di aver sempre giocato bene a San Siro. È uno stadio che mi piace tanto, il pubblico, l'ambiente. È davvero bello giocare in questo ambiente e in questo stadio”.

È stata una trattativa rapida? Cosa ti ha spinto a dire sì al Milan?
“È stato tutto velocissimo. Stavo con la mia famiglia, mi ha chiamato il mio procuratore e mi ha detto dell'interesse del Milan. Quando una squadra come il Milan ti chiama è davvero difficile dire di no”.

Com’è rinato il legame con Allegri?
“Con Allegri ho passato i miei primi momenti tra i professionisti. Fa piacere ritrovarlo. Ruolo? Prima non ero contento perché mi faceva giocare terzino, adesso mi può mettere dove vuole, basta che gioco (ride, ndr)”.

È corretto dire che il Milan ti abbia soffiato all’Inter?
“Ho sempre letto delle cose ma da parte mia non c'era mai qualcosa di concreto, di serio”.

In cosa deve crescere la difesa dopo la scorsa stagione?
“Non è solo la difesa, è un gioco di squadra. Si difende anche come squadre, lavoriamo su questo. Penso che il mister è molto bravo su questo, quindi stiamo lavorando e vediamo come va”.

MN – Quanto pesa indossare la maglia del Milan? Quali obiettivi hai per quest’anno?
“Molto. È una maglia molto pesante ma è molto bella indossarla. Come obiettivi io mi metto sempre molta pressione, molti obiettivi, ma cerco partita dopo partita di fare bene, mettermi a disposizione di squadre e compagno. Poi penso che tutto viene da sé”.

Sul debutto in Champions League contro il Chelsea di Loftus e Pulisic:
“Non me lo aspettavo, momento bellissimo per me. Non ho parlato con Loftus e Pulisic. Per me era un momento speciale, ed adesso che me lo hai detto lo dirò anche a loro”.

Che contributo ti ha dato Vieira?
“Penso che mister ha dato una base, una struttura che era chiara per tutti. Penso che si vedeva che aiutava molto i giocatori, anche me. Aiutava molto la squadra”.

Cosa ti ha impressionato maggiormente in queste prime due settimane al Milan?
“Molto bene. Penso che qua non ti manca nulla, c'è tutto a disposizione. È molto bello da giocatore di sentire che il club faccia tutto per farti star bene. Sono queste le mie prime sensazioni”.

Ti senti arrivato al Milan nel momento ideale?
“Si. Penso di aver fatto tutto passo per passo, e quando guardo indietro c'è sempre la cosa che tutto è arrivato al momento giusto, ed anche questo step è arrivato così”.

Su cosa vuoi concentrarti di più?
“Per me sono un difensore centrale. Poi è ovvio che mi puoi mettere su altri ruoli e lo farò con gran piacere, ma per me sono un centrale e sono specializzato in questo”.

È diverso giocare in una linea a 4 o a 3?
“No, non cambia tanto, perché in tante squadre ho giocato con entrambi i sistemi. Mi sono adattato ad entrambi, e questo non mi dà problemi”.

Si potrà sfruttare la tua abilità sulle palle inattive?
“Ho visto la qualità dei piedi dei giocatori che abbiamo, quindi questo promette buone cose”.

Cosa rende i calciatori belgi così speciali in Serie A?
“Non penso solo nel campionato italiano. Penso che noi del Belgio ci possiamo adattare molto facilmente, e questa è una nostra forza”.

Between Belgium and AC Milan, would you call this a special summer?
“Yes. I signed for Milan and I played for my country. Special indeed.”

Can San Siro become your stage after experiencing it as an opponent?
“Yes, yes. Until now I think I have always played well at San Siro. It’s a stadium I really like, the crowd, the atmosphere. It’s really beautiful to play in this environment and in this stadium.”

Was it a quick negotiation? What convinced you to choose AC Milan?
“It all happened very quickly. I was with my family, my agent called me and told me about Milan’s interest. When a club like Milan calls you, it’s really hard to say no.”

How has your relationship with Allegri been rebuilt?
“With Allegri I had my first experiences as a professional. It’s nice to meet him again. Position? Before I wasn’t happy because he made me play full-back, now he can put me wherever he wants, as long as I play (laughs).”

Is it fair to say that AC Milan snatched you away from Inter?
“I’ve always read things about it, but on my part there was never anything concrete or serious.”

Where does the defense need to improve compared to last season?
“It’s not just the defense, it’s a team effort. You also defend as a team, we are working on that. I think the coach is very good at this, so we’re working and we’ll see how it goes.”

MN – How heavy is it to wear the AC Milan shirt? What goals have you set for this season?
“A lot. It’s a very heavy shirt but it’s beautiful to wear it. As for goals, I always put a lot of pressure on myself, many targets, but I try to take it game by game, do well, and make myself available for the team and my teammates. Then I believe everything else will come naturally.”

On his debut in the Champions League against Chelsea with Loftus and Pulisic:
“I didn’t expect it, it was a wonderful moment for me. I didn’t talk with Loftus and Pulisic. For me it was a special moment, and now that you’ve told me, I’ll mention it to them too.”

What did Vieira give you?
“I think the coach provided a base, a structure that was clear to everyone. I think it was evident that he helped the players a lot, me included. He really helped the team.”

What impressed you the most in your first two weeks at AC Milan?
“Very good. I think here you don’t miss anything, everything is available. As a player, it feels great to see the club doing everything to make you feel comfortable. Those are my first impressions.”

Do you feel you’ve arrived at AC Milan at the right time?
“Yes. I think I’ve taken every step one at a time, and when I look back, things always came at the right moment. This step also arrived just like that.”

What do you want to specialize in the most?
“For me I’m a centre-back. Of course, I can be put in other roles and I’ll do it gladly, but for me I’m a central defender and that’s my specialty.”

Does it make a difference to play in a back four or a back three?
“No, it doesn’t change much, because I’ve played in both systems with many teams. I’ve adapted to both, and it’s not a problem for me.”

Can your strength on set pieces be exploited?
“I’ve seen the quality of the players’ feet we have here, so that promises good things.”

What makes Belgian players so special in Serie A?
“I don’t think it’s just in Serie A. I think that we Belgians can adapt very easily, and that’s one of our strengths.”
