Ecco tutte le dichiarazioni di Athekame durante la sua conferenza stampa di presentazione:

Qual è stata la prima cosa che ti ha colpito entrando nel mondo Milan?
“Penso che tutti conosciamo la storia del club. Penso che sia un club grandissimo, e questo mi ha interessato, come il progetto. Voglio darmi al 100% per la squadra e migliorare. Penso che sia la cosa più importante”.

Il fatto di avere accanto una leggenda come Tassotti ti stimola?
“Si, certo. Come ha detto sono circondato da calciatori fantastici e questo mi spinge a dare il 100% sia in partita che in allenamento”.

Con te sarà un Milan che proverà ad attaccare anche a destra? Ti ritieni più offensivo o conservativo?
“Penso che in allenamento lavoriamo bene in tutti gli aspetti. È vero che a sinistra c'era una combinazione molto valida. Per quanto riguarda me, mi piace molto andare in avanti, ma a parte questo posso dire che come squadre lavoriamo bene su ambo le fasce”.

Parlando delle tue caratteristiche
“Di base gioco in una difesa a 4. Ora che sia a 4 o a 5 sono a disposizione. Io preferisco comunque giocare come esterno tutta fascia in un 3-5-2. Io sono qui per essere a disposizione dell'allenatore. Se mi mette in una difesa a 3 laterale sarà disponibile, così come lo sarà in altre posizioni”.

Quando c’è stato il primo contatto con il Milan e come hai reagito?
“La mia reazione è stata fortissima, è stata un'emozione fortissima. Poi ovviamente bisogna rimanere lucidi, ma sono rimasto stupito. Però sono qui per lavorare e mettermi a lavoro. È stato circa 3 settimane fa, non ricordo la data. E chiaramente sono stato molto felice”.

Ti senti più orgoglioso o più ansioso all’idea di giocare a San Siro?
“Penso che non ci sia ansia. Come sappiamo tutti il Milan è un club storico, con uno stadio meraviglio, che ti dà la voglia di dare il 400%, e questo può solo portare una motivazione aggiuntiva ai giocatori”.

Sull’importanza della fase difensiva per Allegri
“Con l'allenatore lavoriamo tanto tatticamente e difensivamente, e riusciamo a farlo bene. Sappiamo che la difesa è molto importante ed Allegri insiste molto. A Milanello mi hanno impressionato tutti. Ci sono giocatori fantastici con un'esperienza enorme, quindi la mia impressione è stata positiva”.

Sugli idoli d’infanzia e la prima impressione del calcio italiano dopo le sfide in Champions contro Atalanta e Inter
“Ho giocato con l'Inter e l'Atalanta. Quando si gioca con squadre di questo calibro sono pronte, mettono intensità, e questo mi ha colpito. MI ispiro molto a Daniel Alves, così come a tanti altri calciatori che giocano sulla fascia destra”.

Com’è stato l’approccio nello spogliatoio del Milan, pieno di campioni? Che tipo di consigli hai ricevuto?
“Tutti mi hanno accolto molto bene. Credo che lo spogliatoio sia molto affiatato, e calciatori di questo calibro sono d'esempio. Sono molto contento di giocare con loro”.

In quali aspetti pensi di poter crescere?
“Come avete detto sono molto giovane. Posso migliorare in tutto, devo imparare molto, e sono in una squadra dove posso apprendere. In Italia l'aspetto tattico importante. Sono giovane, mi piace imparare e sono molto motivato ad imparare soprattutto al cospetto di giocatori così importante”.

Quanto ha pesato Allegri nella tua decisione?
“L'impatto è stato positivo. Ho voluto venire qua. È vero che è un allenatore importante. Ho visto che è molto disciplinato e questo è molto importante per me, e questo mi permetterà di migliorare molto”.

What was the first thing that struck you about the Milan world?
“I think we all know the history of the club. I believe it’s a huge club, and that caught my interest, along with the project. I want to give 100% for the team and improve. I think that’s the most important thing.”

“Yes, of course. As I said, I’m surrounded by fantastic players and this pushes me to give 100% both in matches and in training.”

About your characteristics
“Basically I play in a back four. Whether it’s four or five, I’m available. I still prefer to play as a wing-back in a 3-5-2. I’m here to be available for the coach. If he puts me in a back three as a wide player, I’ll be ready, just as I will in other positions.”

When was your first contact with Milan and what was your reaction?
“My reaction was very strong, it was a great emotion. Then of course you need to stay clear-headed, but I was surprised. However, I’m here to work and get down to it. It was about three weeks ago, I don’t remember the exact date. And of course I was very happy.”

Do you feel more proud or more anxious about playing at San Siro?
“I don’t think there’s anxiety. As we all know, Milan is a historic club, with a wonderful stadium, which gives you the desire to give 400%, and this can only bring extra motivation to the players.”

On the importance of defensive work for Allegri
“With the coach we work a lot tactically and defensively, and we manage to do it well. We know defense is very important and Allegri insists on it a lot. At Milanello, everyone impressed me. There are fantastic players with huge experience, so my impression was positive.”

On childhood idols and first impressions of Italian football after facing Atalanta and Inter in the Champions League
“I played against Inter and Atalanta. When you face teams of this caliber, they are ready, they bring intensity, and that impressed me. I’m very inspired by Dani Alves, as well as by many other players who play on the right flank.”

How was your approach to the Milan locker room full of champions? What advice did you receive?
“Everyone welcomed me very well. I think the locker room is very close-knit, and players of this caliber are an example. I’m very happy to play with them.”

In what areas do you think you can improve?
“As you said, I’m very young. I can improve in everything, I have a lot to learn, and I’m in a team where I can develop. In Italy the tactical aspect is very important. I’m young, I like learning, and I’m very motivated to learn, especially alongside such important players.”

How much did Allegri influence your decision?
“The impact was positive. I wanted to come here. It’s true he’s an important coach. I saw that he is very disciplined and that’s very important for me, and this will allow me to improve a lot.”
