Durante i saluti di Theo al Mondo Milan affidati a Instagram, non è sfuggito anche il commento "polemico" nei confronti dell'attuale dirigenza Milanista. Dopo aver infatti ringraziato compagni, tifo e soprattutto Paolo Maldini, il terzino ha poi spiegato il perchè e le motivazioni della sua cessione:

"La mia decisione di andarmene non è stata facile. Ho sempre saputo dove volevo stare, e il Milan è sempre stata la mia priorità. Ma, purtroppo, non tutto dipende da una sola persona. La direzione che ha preso il club e alcune decisioni recenti non rispecchiano i valori né l’ambizione che mi hanno portato qui. È il momento di chiudere un capitolo e iniziarne un altro, diverso, ma altrettanto importante per me."

Theo’s somewhat pointed farewell didn’t go unnoticed, especially toward the current AC Milan management. After thanking his teammates, the fans, and especially Paolo Maldini, the full-back went on to explain the reasons behind his departure:

“My decision to leave was not an easy one. I’ve always known where I wanted to be, and Milan has always been my priority.
But unfortunately, not everything depends on just one person.
The direction the club has taken and some of the recent decisions do not reflect the values or the ambition that brought me here.
It’s time to close one chapter and begin another — different, but just as important to me.”
