Ibrahimovic si racconta così nel podcast ABTalks di Anas Bukhash, affrontando i motivi del ritiro dal calcio giocato: "Sto bene, la vita è bella, mi tratta bene. Ovviamente ho smesso di giocare a calcio otto mesi fa, ora ho una vita diversa, ho accettato di smettere di giocare a calcio che è stata una cosa difficile a causa del mio ego, a causa di ciò che penso di me stesso. Io penso di essere il migliore, sono ancora il migliore, potrei continuare… ma ho scelto di fermarmi. Perché? Voglio una bella vita per la mia famiglia. Volevo poter fare delle cose con i miei figli, se avessi continuato non avrei potuto fare delle cose con i miei figli perché avevo problemi a un ginocchio. Così l’ho accettato, sono arrivato a un momento in cui ho detto 'va bene, lascia perdere e inizia un nuovo capitolo nella tua vita'".

Infine, una domanda suo nuovo ruolo da dirigente: "Cardinale mi ha fatto un’offerta che non potevo rifiutare. Ho iniziato a lavorare con il Milan e sono al Milan da tre o quattro mesi e sta andando bene, devo dire".
