La vittoria dei rossoneri non ha cancellato l'amarezza per una conduzione gara a dir poco discutibile, sia da parte dell'arbitro in campo Pairetto sia da parte del Var Serra a Lissone.
Di queste decisioni ne ha parlato su DAZN l'ex arbitro Luca Marelli:
"Espulsione Cacae? L'intervento è parecchio brutto, decisamente sopra l’altezza della caviglia. Siamo molto al limite, è almeno giallo: c’è l’errore di Pairetto. Contatto molto pericoloso, c’è il rischio del cartellino rosso. Manca la velocità del contatto ma il rischio c’è. Il var avrebbe quantomeno dovuto chiamarlo a rivedere.
Espulsione Tomori? Il fallo è evidente, sia per imprudenza che per l'azione pericolosa (spa). Non ci sono dubbi sull'entità del fallo, ma la posizione di partenza di Colombo è sospetta, la sensazione è che ci sia mezza figura di Colombo. Non c’è la ricostruzione del fuorigioco semiautomatico perché non è un episodio da Var. Paradossalmente se Tomori fosse stato espulso direttamente, per rosso, il VAR sarebbe potuto intervenire. Invece così il VAR non può fare nulla, anche se dovesse accorgersi che il fuorigioco c'è. Si sta già discutendo all'IFAB su questi episodi, quelli legati alle seconde ammonizioni.
Espulsione Marianucci? Il gesto di Marianucci è sicuramente volontario, lo si capisce dall'atteggiamento del giocatore che si mette sulla difensiva ancor prima che Pairetto se ne accorga. Col tacco destro tocca sulla coscia di Gimenez. Mi trovo d'accordo con la decisione di Serra sul richiamare Pairetto al monitor perché questi episodi non hanno niente a che fare col calcio. Gimenez viene ammonito perché nel protocollo è previsto che se un arbitro, guardando l'episodio per il quale è stato chiamato, si accorge che c'è un'altra sanzione disciplinare non vista in diretta la può comminare".

Milan’s victory did not erase the bitterness over a highly questionable match officiating. This applies both to on-field referee Pairetto and VAR official Serra in Lissone.
Former referee Luca Marelli discussed these controversial decisions on DAZN:
"Cacace’s red card? The challenge was quite nasty, clearly above ankle height. It’s a borderline case, but at the very least, it’s a yellow card—Pairetto made a mistake. It was a very dangerous challenge, and there was a risk of a red card. The impact wasn’t particularly fast, but the danger was there. The VAR should have at least called the referee to review it.
Tomori’s red card? The foul is clear, both for recklessness and for a dangerous action (SPA). There’s no doubt about the foul itself, but Colombo’s starting position is questionable—it looks like he was half a body offside. There was no semi-automated offside review because this is not a VAR case. Paradoxically, if Tomori had been directly sent off with a straight red, VAR could have intervened. But since it was a second yellow, VAR was powerless, even if they had noticed the offside. IFAB is already discussing these types of incidents related to second yellow cards.
Marianucci’s red card? Marianucci’s action was clearly intentional, as you can tell from his body language—he immediately goes on the defensive even before Pairetto notices. With his right heel, he makes contact with Gimenez’s thigh. I agree with Serra’s decision to call Pairetto to the monitor because such actions have nothing to do with football. Gimenez was booked as well because, under protocol, if a referee reviewing an incident notices another disciplinary offense that was missed live, they can still issue a card."
