ARRIGO SACCHI: "LA CONCORRENZA FA BENE, COSI LEAO DOVRÀ DARSI UNA SVEGLIATA"

Intervistato questa mattina da "La Gazzetta dello Spor", l'ex allenatore Arrigo Sacchi ha parlato di Milan, della concorrenza in attacco con l'arrivo di Joao Felix e Santiago Gimenez ed ovviamente di Sergio Conceiçao:

Sergio Conceiçao, adesso, ha un'ampia scelta lì davanti. Lavoro facilitato?
"Di sicuro aver un numero maggiore di soluzioni è importante per un tecnico. Però io vorrei dire chiaramente che ciò che finora è mancato al Milan è stato lo stile. Quindi toccherà a Conceiçao dare uno stile di gioco alla squadra. Impresa tutt'altro che facile, ma credo che lui possa farcela".

Gimenez, Joao Felix, Leao, Pulisic, e poi Sottil, Chukwueze, Abraham, Camarda, Jovic...Sono tanti da gestire.
"Mi auguro che i giocatori li abbia scelti l'allenatore, sulla base di valutazioni tecniche e umane. Se è così, allora è stato compiuto un passo importante. Il Milan deve essere protagonista in A, in Champions e in Coppa Italia. Logioc che la rosa sia ampia. E in attacco ci sarà maggiore concorrenza, cosa che può fare bene a qualcuno...".

Qualche riferimento in particolare?
"Beh, Leao dovrà darsi una svegliata. Non potrà più giocare bene una partita su tre: la continuità è una qualità fondamentale nel repertorio di un campione. In questo caso, se lui non è a posto, c’è pronto un altro a subentrare. Ciò significa, per Conceiçao, avere più soluzioni, anche dal punto di vista tattico. Si può giocare con un tandem offensivo, oppure con tre punte, o anche con il 4-4-2 molto offensivo".

Che cosa pensa di Gimenez e Joao Felix?
"Ho seguito il messicano in Olanda, ma voglio vederlo alle prese con il calcio italiano. I numeri non gli mancano. Joao Felix è una grande promessa finora non mantenuta. Le doti tecniche le ha. Al Milan, in un ambiente che lo fa sentire importante, potrebbe trovare la sua reale dimensione".

Secondo lei, come utilizzerà Conceiçao le nuove risorse?
"Lui difende con due linee a quattro e chiede pressing. Vuole togliere l’iniziativa all’avversario, non accetta di essere dominato. Penso che l’abbondanza in attacco possa consentirgli una saggia rotazione. Bisogna gestire le energie e avere diversi elementi può aiutare il turnover. Se poi questi elementi sono di alto livello, come quelli del Milan, allora il turnover quasi non si avverte".

Curiosità: l’attacco del Milan diventato più forte di quello dell’Inter?
"La coppia Lautaro-Thuram è la migliore d’Italia. Certo, i rossoneri hanno alzato l’asticella e, soprattutto, hanno validi ricambi. Ma, e su questo torno a insistere, l’importante è che Conceiçao dia uno stile di gioco alla squadra. Quando c’è lo stile, anche per i nuovi è più semplice inserirsi. Se invece non c’è lo stile, non si può essere protagonisti".

Sergio Conceiçao now has plenty of options up front. Does that make his job easier?
"Having more solutions is certainly important for a coach. However, I want to make it clear that what Milan has lacked so far is a distinct style. It will be up to Conceiçao to give the team a playing identity. It’s no easy task, but I believe he can do it."

Gimenez, Joao Felix, Leao, Pulisic, plus Sottil, Chukwueze, Abraham, Camarda, Jovic... That's a lot of players to manage.
"I hope the coach was the one who chose these players, based on both technical and human evaluations. If that’s the case, then it’s an important step forward. Milan must be a protagonist in Serie A, the Champions League, and the Coppa Italia. It’s only logical to have a deep squad. And up front, there will be more competition, which could benefit some players..."

Anyone in particular?
"Well, Leao needs to wake up. He can’t afford to play well only one game out of three. Consistency is a fundamental quality in a champion’s skill set. If he isn’t at his best, someone else will be ready to step in. This means Conceiçao will have more tactical options. He can play with a striking duo, three forwards, or even a very attacking 4-4-2."

What do you think about Gimenez and Joao Felix?
"I followed the Mexican player in the Netherlands, but I want to see how he adapts to Italian football. He certainly has the numbers. Joao Felix is a great promise that has yet to be fulfilled. He has the technical qualities. At Milan, in an environment that makes him feel important, he might finally find his true dimension."

How do you think Conceiçao will use his new resources?
"He defends with two lines of four and demands pressing. He wants to take the initiative away from the opponent and doesn’t accept being dominated. I think having so many attacking options will allow him to rotate wisely. Managing energy is key, and having several quality players helps with squad rotation. If these players are of a high level, like Milan’s, then the rotation is barely noticeable."

Curiosity: Has Milan’s attack become stronger than Inter’s?
"The Lautaro-Thuram duo is the best in Italy. Of course, Milan has raised the bar and, above all, has strong alternatives. But I insist on this: the key is for Conceiçao to give the team a clear playing style. When there is a distinct style, it’s easier for new players to fit in. If there is no style, you can’t be a real contender."
